Residence param

[edit]

Hi! The residence parameter doesn't seem to work.

The Infobox for:

{{Infobox criminal
| name = Foo
| birth_name = Foo Bar
| residence = Baz
}}

Outputs the infobox without the residence param:

Foo
Born
Foo Bar

Additionally, in preview mode the error: Warning: Page using Template:Infobox person with unknown parameter "residence" (this message is shown only in preview) is shown.

I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this? Am I using this incorrectly?

Thanks! -OXYLYPSE (talk) 08:09, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@OXYLYPSE: This template uses {{Infobox person}} which removed the residence parameter in [1] after discussion at Template talk:Infobox person/Archive 34#Residence parameter. I have removed it from the documentation.[2] PrimeHunter (talk) 13:53, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: I've spent some time today updating the articles that have been using the parameter, where the subject mentions the residence to be a prison or other place of incarceration I've moved the information to the imprisoned parameter. Mrbuskin (talk) 05:43, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There should be spaces between beginyear and endyear

{{#if:{{{beginyear|}}}|{{{beginyear}}}–{{{endyear|}}}}}
-> {{#if:{{{beginyear|}}}|{{{beginyear}}} – {{{endyear|}}}}}

--FMSky (talk) 19:56, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To editor FMSky: actually no... in some cases these parameters are used incorrectly, as in "24 January 1975–7 March 1998", which is of course an incorrectly formatted date range and should be fixed with "1975–1998" whenever you find it (the params are "beginyear" and "endyear", after all). So these parameters are formatted correctly as "xxxx–yyyy", for example: in the John Wayne Gacy infobox. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 20:44, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah ok, yeah makes sense, cause i've been noticing it on boxes were the month and day was included. I'll then change it to only show the year from now on, thx FMSky (talk) 21:03, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

minor thing, in the line....

  |  data5     = {{#ifexist:{{{trial|}}}|[[{{{trial}}}]] {{#if:{{{trial_start|}}}|({{{trial_start}}}{{#if:{{{trial_end|}}}|-{{{trial_end}}}}})}}}}

....the "-" should be a "–" instead FMSky (talk) 21:50, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings and felicitations. In the fields

  | data4      = {{if empty|{{{criminal_charge|{{{criminal charge|}}}}}}|{{{charge|}}}}}
  | label6     = {{#if:{{{criminal_charge|{{{criminal charge|}}}}}}{{{charge|}}}|Penalty|Criminal penalty}}

change to

 | label6     = {{{criminal_charges|{{{criminal charge|{{{criminal_charge|}}}}}}}}}

and change the field " | data4 = " to match this if necessary. Basically, allow the name(s) this/these fields to be be made plural, as is possible with Template:Infobox person. —DocWatson42 (talk) 12:59, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. The proposed code does not look like it will work. What happened to |charge=? Are you proposing to remove it? What happened to the if statement and the "Penalty" label? – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:15, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: I'm sorry—I just copied and pasted the code from Template:Infobox person, where the fields are: | label51 = Criminal charge(s) and | data51 = {{{criminal_charges|{{{criminal charge|{{{criminal_charge|}}}}}}}}}. If I was familiar with how the markup worked, I wouldn't be making the request. :-/ How else can I help you make this change? —DocWatson42 (talk) 07:31, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think you want to change {{{criminal_charge|{{{criminal charge|}}}}}}{{{charge|}}} to {{{criminal_charges|{{{criminal_charge|{{{criminal charge|}}}}}}}}}{{{charge|}}} in two places in the sandbox, and then test the new parameter on the testcases page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:15, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
 Done * Pppery * it has begun... 19:16, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Pppery: Thank you. ^_^ @Jonesey95: I apologize for being MIA. —DocWatson42 (talk) 03:38, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removed parameters

Jonesey95, this one is showing errors also: |salary=, |denomination=. I found this in preview of Carl Panzram MB 20:35, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deprecating the net_worth parameter

[edit]

In July 2021, the |net_worth= in {{Infobox person}} was deprecated. Should it be deprecated here as well? — DaxServer (talk) 12:07, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

imprisoned parameter

[edit]

Is this parameter intended to show the location of current imprisonment or previous imprisonment? Should it be used after the person has been released? 76.14.122.5 (talk) 18:04, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lawyer/Attorney Parameter

[edit]

Where a substantial percentage of criminals will have had a lawyer appear for them, it would make sense for the infobox to have a spot to list the prominent lawyer who defended them, etc. Virginia Courtsesan (talk) 02:06, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Change "Partner" parameter

[edit]

In Template:Infobox person, the partner parameter is for "unmarried life partners in a domestic partnership", and is thus confusing. Can this be changed to something along the lines of "accomplice" or a similar term? ☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 17:12, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RfC: Add "Criminal Charges" clarification

[edit]

The guideline currently states that the "criminal_charges" parameter is "What the criminal is accused of (note that this is different from what the criminal is -- later -- convicted of)". Obviously the person can't be a criminal if they've only been accused of a crime, or even charged with one. However this Infobox seems to be restricted to use with notable convicted criminals. So this would imply that "criminal_charges" in this case relates solely to crimes they are currently wanted for (ie. which they have not been tried for yet).

I think there's a chance this parameter could be used to list charges that did not lead to convictions after being processed in the legal system (either because they were dropped, dismissed or otherwise found not-guilty). A short note could help clarify the correct use cases:

"What the criminal is currently wanted to be tried for. Do not list charges that were dropped, dismissed or which went to trial and did not lead to conviction."

I don't think an RfC was the right move here. On the prospective change, I am neutral. PARAKANYAA (talk) 19:53, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. There's a typo in the list of excluded parameters in |_exclude=. motice should be changed to motive. thanks. Jeeputer Talk 18:00, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed that motive is present at the end of the list. so motice should be removed form the list instead. Jeeputer Talk 18:09, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 Partly done: Renamed to motive; not sure about removing it entirely. Feel free to reopen if you think it should be removed. SWinxy (talk) 20:57, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
