The variation Template:Infobox_Country_styled was created on 06-April-2008 by long-term Wikpedia editor User:Wikid77 (me) to allow new features to be developed for Template:Infobox_Country, over a period of weeks. Most templates do not have such a variation, but most templates are not used in 550 highest-importance articles for each country of the world. -Wikid77 (talk) 19:42, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Moving new features to Infobox_Country

[edit]

This variation, Template:Infobox_Country_styled, although providing new features, is still used in live articles as a mainstream template, not a sandbox page.

The main template {{Infobox Country}} is used in over 550 articles, including the major articles about most countries and territories of the world. For that reason, this variation template is used to expand and develop new infobox features, over a period of weeks, without disturbing those 550+ major articles. Once features have been fully implemented, and evolved to handle general articles, those features can be copied into template Infobox_Country. Care should still be taken to ensure support for all articles that still use this template for special infobox styling.

Because editors are volunteers, sparing blocks of time only as their schedules permit, this variation template is more responsive to the reality of the uncertain work hours involved. Some new features have required weeks to fully implement, with the help of multiple people, as special cases were later detected. -Wikid77 (talk) 19:36, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Only 1 variation of Infobox_Country

[edit]

06-April-2008: This one variation should not be viewed as an attempt to spawn dozens of offshoot templates, but rather as a single, safe method to allow multiple users to expand the template features without disabling the display of those 550 major Wikipedia artices about countries. Note the emphasis: Infobox_Country is not used for small village articles, but instead, for the major "highest-importance" article for each country. -Wikid77 (talk) 19:36, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Move to a subpage of Infobox Country

[edit]

W, if this truly is a sandbox box of {{Infobox Country}} and its purpose is to expand Infobox Country, then please move it from its own page to a subpage of Infobox Country; perhaps {{Infobox Country/styled sandbox}}. Also create a subpage for test-cases so that you don't have to change any mainspace articles to test the styles. This was done over at {{Infobox Settlement}} and has worked well. If you need help moving the pages, I'll be glad to help with that tomorrow. Regards, —MJCdetroit (yak) 03:33, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Delete request

[edit]

The author (Wiki77) made a speedy delete request on my talk page here. Hence, the {{db-author}}. —MJCdetroit (yak) 14:29, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Move, not copy and delete

[edit]

Explanation about what happened here today:

This "sandbox version" of {{Infobox Country}} used to reside on the page name {{Infobox Country styled}}. Today this template was first nominated for TfA, and then for a speedy delete. (Highly irregular since that is backwards order.) Then instead of letting the TfA run its course Darwinek and MJCdetroit copied this template and its talk page here and deleted it at its old address. (Again, irregular since at the time it was used in several articles.) That meant that the page history could not be seen by editors, so they could not see who wrote what part. That made it hard for people to discuss the changes. And it also lost the attributions to the authors and thus broke the GFDL. So instead I deleted this "new" version here, undeleted the old version, and then moved the old version here. Thus we now see the proper page history. I also moved the /doc page here since it had been left dangling under the old name.
