Wording

Would anyone object if I changed the wording from Hi, I just wanted to let you know that... to Hello. This is a courtesy notice that...? Ruбlov (talk) 17:09, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Documentation

[edit]

I don't understand why here, @Rublov: (courtesy ping) removed the "sign=~~~~" parameter from the documentation. This template doesn't automatically sign itself (see example above) and its omission may mislead inexperienced editors into thinking it's all done for them. If you've no objection, I'm going to revert the removal. If you want the template to auto-sign, you could add {{Subst:User0|{{Subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} or some other magic word(s) but that doesn't render custom sigs so it's not an improvement. I don't remember this edit specifically but my edit summary suggests that I was under the impression that the sign parameter was auto-populated. If that is not or is no longer the case then feel free to restore the original instructions. Ideally it should not be necessary to redundantly specify the sign parameter for every instantiation of this template but I do not know whether that is possibly with MediaWiki's templating language. rblv (talk) 16:41, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Rublov:, thanks for your reply; I realize your edit took place in March but I don't watch this template. Some templates such as {{Welcome-belated}} do auto-sign but it's never been needed here. It might be considered in the future but it seems like a solution searching for a problem. Anyway, I've reverted the edit. Thanks again and cheers, Baffle☿gab 00:19, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
