A beautiful case of navbox creep, a template that got out of hand completely. So this is a navbox about "Earth", and people thought it suitable to link things like creation myth, Earth Day and Bing Maps? Bing Maps, but not, for example, the parent topic world map or cartography? Strange choice. --dab (𒁳) 09:57, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I disagree. The template as it stood was something of a consensus. Yes, creation myths, Earth day and world maps are entirely appropriate topics for this NavBox. Check the Earth article and it's sub-articles: it covers cartography, religious beliefs and other cultural aspects.—RJH (talk) 15:42, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the fringe theories due to WP:ONEWAY and removed the religious/Gaia references since it doesn't belong in a predominantly scientific nav box, Second Quantization (talk) 18:11, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please split "Imaging" in "Crowdsourced" (or "with active community") from traditional (Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps)

I'm not familiar with template syntax to make this change by myself. 176.15.136.200 (talk) 04:47, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal for merge and simplification

[edit]

We're discussing merging this template with {{Physical Earth}}. A proposed merge is at User:Hike395/Earth. If you'd like to join in the discussion, please visit Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geology#More template creep. Thanks! — hike395 (talk) 19:28, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The merge discussion has now moved to TfD. Please feel free to comment there. — hike395 (talk) 11:18, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The latest proposed merged template is at Template:Earth/sandbox. Please feel free to edit, or propose changes at TfD. — hike395 (talk) 06:05, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Yreuq reordered the rows of this navbox to be alphabetical. I have a mild preference for the old ordering (which is roughly by importance). Several new links were also added to the navbox.

What do other editors think of the latest version? Will leave notice at WT:GEOLOGY. — hike395 (talk) 19:34, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
