[edit]

This template needs to be populated to appear above all tennis draws, as the key - rst20xx (talk) 23:39, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In the process of going over all Grand Slam tournaments back to (and including) 2005... rst20xx (talk) 00:10, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

...Right, I've done Wimbledon and the U.S. Open back to 2004, the Aussie Open back to 2005 and the French Open back to 2003 (basically back until the only articles are the Men's/Women's Singles). I've also done all Challengers - rst20xx (talk) 21:59, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the headings ought to be taken out of "title case" as per the MOS Primergrey (talk) 20:37, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I thought, "Use sentence-style capitalization, not title-style capitalization, in headings." and "Wikipedia avoids unnecessary capitalization" would cover it, as Wikipedia's MOS is the result of consensus.Primergrey (talk) 21:44, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Those look like column headers to me, and what makes capitalization of any of the second words necessary? No proper nouns in the bunch. Primergrey (talk) 02:53, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • My understanding of the template is it could be used to populate the row descriptors in an infobox, in which case, all caps would be correct. I suppose if you wanted to work up a sandbox version that had an optional parameter to make the output lower case or first letter upper case only, I would be happy to implement it. Should be fairly easy to do if you take advantage of the lc: and ucfirst: magic words. Technical 13 (talk) 05:22, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I want to edit this page. There are some matches in the "Draw" part doesn't have the result, but they were really finished. So I would like to add the result. Haibinhvn (talk) 02:21, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Haibinhvn: Hi, Haibinhvn. I think you need to go back to whichever tennis article you were looking at, and find a different "Edit" link. This talk page is only for requesting edits to the "Key" annotations, shared by many tennis articles. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:19, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I want to undo the current version to the older version because it had been used for quite some time and looked better. 333-blue at 13:52, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jonesey95: as most recent editor. Cabayi (talk) 14:02, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The unnamed parameter that sets a fixed number of columns (in this case, three columns) is deprecated; I replaced it with a fixed column width, which is the new way to format columns that is compatible with mobile and all screen sizes. I would be happy to change the column width to something else; it is currently 25em, which shows three columns on small laptop screens and more columns on larger screens. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:39, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Jonesey95 But it seems like with 2 columns to me, does that make sense? 333-blue at 10:05, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. If you have a small window, 25em will show two columns. If you expand your window or make the zoom level lower or make your font size smaller, you will see more columns. The point of the change is that the new way is more compatible with screens/windows of all sizes, including those on mobile devices. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:01, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Weird, still two. 333-blue at 14:04, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can the following lines be added to this key?

* ITF = [[Glossary of tennis terms#ITF|ITF entry]]

* JE = [[Glossary of tennis terms#Junior exempt|Junior Exempt]]

The way tennis players enter challenger tournaments has changed, with a number of spots determined from the top players in the ITF rankings. This status is being used by ATP Challenger events (e.g. 2019 City of Playford Tennis International – Men's Singles - source) and it currently isn't explained (to be honest the new ITF pro tennis system isn't well explained anywhere on Wikipedia, so the current suggested link is a placeholder for until someone gets around to updating the relevant pages).

Also, JE should be added as it's used in tournaments like 2018 LTP Charleston Pro Tennis – Singles, also without explanation. IffyChat -- 10:31, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't specified your preferred order for the items. Please make your requested edit at Template:Draw key/sandbox, which is not protected, so that you can make it look the way you want. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:40, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: I've made a suggestion for the ordering of the new lines in the sandbox, If others think it should be in a different order (or have a better idea for where the ITF link should go to), I'm happy for them to suggest alternatives. IffyChat -- 19:49, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New entry

[edit]

Hi. There is new key of flag icons that has been added to most of the draw pages recently and it seems it's needed for some readers. You can see it here for example. I though it would be better if it can be merged with this template, it will be applied to all of the draws pages and there would be need for that little kinda ugly box. One more thing, The word "Key" in this template is a header when it shouldn't be a header I think, maybe you can change it to <big>Key</big>. I made the change in the template sandbox. Thanks. ForzaUV (talk) 09:44, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template. I don't think either change is appropriate. Flag icons shouldn't be used anyway, and you should not change a valid heading to use obsolete HTML. Izno (talk) 01:25, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The message on {{edit template-protected}} says Edit requests to template-protected pages should only be used for edits that are either uncontroversial or supported by consensus, so I guess I didn't see the request I made as controversial. The thing is the flag icons key is already being used on a few pages but not all and it's impossible to add it to all of draws pages without altering this template. You're right about <big>Key</big> being an obsolete HTML but the point is, 'Key' shouldn't be a header or it should? So maybe it can be changed to {{big|Key}} or any other appropriate alternative. ForzaUV (talk) 10:55, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sold that such a flag icons list needs linking, whatsoever, and as I said before, rarely should you be linking icons anyway. Izno (talk) 21:57, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fix the overcapitalization of glossary terms (change Wild Card to Wild card, Lucky Loser to Lucky loser, Special Exempt to Special exempt, Protected Ranking to Protected ranking, Junior Exempt to Junior exempt, which is how these terms are listed in the linked glossary). I don't know whether some of the anchors are available in both cases, but in any case the displayed piped text should be fixed. Done PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 09:28, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, players have used it to enter tournaments since the start of 2024. Notable examples this year include Learner Tien, who used the program to enter the 2025 Hong Kong Open. PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 09:25, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To expand, players use this program to enter events at ATP 250 level if they are ranked inside the top 250, and ATP 125 or below if they are ranked inside the top 350 of the world. So far this year, Learner Tien used it to enter Hong Kong, and Martin Landaluce used it to enter the Canberra Challenger. PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 09:30, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is also only for players aged 20 and below. PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 09:31, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Last year, Luca Van Assche used the program to enter Brisbane, Shang Juncheng used his to enter Delray Beach, Jakub Menšik used his to enter Doha, Henrique Rocha used it to enter Båstad, and Coleman Wong used it to enter Almaty PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 09:43, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how to edit these but be aware I edited these wrong, it should be Jakub Menšík using his ranking to enter Doha PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 09:44, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Description of suggested change: a JA section for a Junior Accelerator Programme entrant[1], a programme that has been used to enter players in ATP 50 and 75 challengers since the beginning of 2023, and a CA section for a College Accelerator Programme entrant[2][3], which was launched in September 2023

  • I just want to point out that I have never seen NG, JA, or CA used in an official draw. Players have entered the tournament using these different programs but those notations never show up. Adamtt9 (talk) 13:06, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Never say never, editor PurpleCoffinMan. If mistakes were bees, then I'd be covered with them. We all make mistakes, we all learn from them and move on. Anyway, I'm confused as hell – do you want to withdraw this request and delete the NG? What about the usages you gave for the NG in [the previous section]?
