Change?
[edit]It has just about every attraction at every park. Should it not be changed to the basics (Pirates of the Carribean, Small World, Haunted Mansion etc) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.185.192.152 (talk) 23:01, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Untitled
[edit]Hi everyone. Just thought I would set out some guidelines to keep this template runnin' smooth.
1) The attraction goes in the land that it first appeared in. For instance, Pirates of the Caribbean would go in Minor Lands as it first appeared in New Orleans Square, although it traditionally appears in Adventureland.
3) Fireworks and parades go in the Main Street section, not the Fantasyland section, although they appear above the castle which is part of Fantasyland.
4) It doesn't matter if the attraction doesn't exist anymore.
5) The castles are classed as Fantasyland attractions, although they are mostly seen as Main Street attractions.
6) Never ever put an attraction on the template that doesn't have an article. This template is for linking Wikipedia articles of Disney attractions together.
Thanks a lot. --Speedway 20:03, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
The need?
[edit]Do we need this template? Each attraction has a list of the rides for that theme park, and this list is going to be rediculous with every attraction from every park. It is better suited as a list. and have a See Also on each page. Bytebear 06:48, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have started a page called List of Disney attractions. I think rather than an inclusive template, why not just have a "See also" section that the user can go to? Bytebear 01:25, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
This Navbox Needs to be Redesigned
[edit]This navbox is too long, disorganized, and unhelpful. Attractions are arbitrarily assigned to groups (e.g. Splash Mountain only appears once under Critter Country, but the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are listed twice under two different lands each) and minor attractions that in only one park get top billing next to popular attractions that have been duplicated four or five times. We already have an exhaustive listing of attractions for each Disney theme park in separate navboxes, so this one needs its own reason to exist.
The original purpose for this template was to catalog attractions that appear only in Disneyland-style "castle parks", but the current title of the template suggests a wider scope of all Disney Parks. Additionally, divergence from the Disneyland "template" has only accelerated since the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland, and it's no longer clear to me that the castle parks are similar enough to each other and distinct enough from "non-castle" Disney parks like EPCOT Center, Disney-MGM Studios, or Disney's California Adventure to warrant this navbox.
For example, the new Star Wars land is located in a castle park in California and a non-castle park in Florida. The new Marvel land will appear in a castle park in Hong Kong and non-castle parks in California and Florida.
I don't think the navbox is useful in its current state, but I'd like to try to save it. A couple of ideas to improve it:
- 1. Group by type of attraction rather than land - Use "Dark ride", "Theater show", "Boat ride", etc. to group attractions since many of the new lands at castle parks don't map well to each other.
- 2. Develop minimal criteria for inclusion - I.e. an attraction must appear in at least two castle parks to be considered popular enough for the navbox (though this would exclude undeniably iconic attractions like the Matterhorn at Disneyland).
