The CommonsHelper has, seemingly, had its URL changed and the current one leads to a deadlink. The Theosophist (talk) 14:20, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
- Do you know if there is a replacement link? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:57, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. Do you have a replacement link for the new URL? toollabs:commonshelper perhaps? Would like to confirm that is what you want before I make the edit, The Theosophist. —

Claiming no expertise, but an old link, [:http://tools.wmflabs.org/commonshelper/], seems to work. Hogweard (talk) 09:41, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Broken again, 21 Feb 15
Something has gone wrong with the uploader again. It seems to be the authorization link: the OAuth uploader has vanished ("The URI you have requested, /magnustools/oauth_uploader.php?action=authorize, is not currently serviced."). The uploader gets as far as "Transfer in progress..." and stops there, presumably waiting for a connection to OAuth uploader that is not there. Hogweard (talk) 11:55, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
- Working smoothly again. Hogweard (talk) 22:45, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
Add parameter to suggest a new filename for the transfer
I've been finding a few images in dealing with {{Shadows Commons}} that otherwise meet the criteria for transfer but need a new name on the transfer. Can the template be amended to allow the new name to be suggested in this template as opposed to in something like {{Rename media}}? Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:50, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
- Sounds useless and invites people to waste their time. As long as the file has a description, it should be trivial for a filemover to identify a suitable alternative name and move it directly without adding any extra templates. If extra templates are added, this just seems to waste the time of the user who adds the template and the time of the filemover who has to spend time on removing the template afterwards. If the file doesn't have a description, then it seems more suitable to add a description than adding templates which someone else later will have to remove. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:25, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

The template text links to "Wikipedia:Moving files to the Commons" but the page is named "Wikipedia:Moving files to Commons". Please remove the "the" in link and linklabel. 91.9.100.60 (talk) 17:18, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Why was wmfLabs CommonsHelper link removed?
@Fastily: Hi, why you removed ([1], [2]) the link to the wmfLabs CommonsHelper? You created a summary that the tool produces mangled output, users don't clean up after themselves, and Magnus is too busy to create a patch. But this is not the way to solve the problem! If you want to fix this, you can help Magnus with creating a patch for example. BTW such things should be backed with a proper discussion first. Please restore it. --RezonansowyakaRezy (talk | contribs) 19:33, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Rezonansowy. I think this is a perfectly valid reason to remove the link. As I said, users do not clean up after themselves (or do not know that they should), and this creates a lot of extra work for the folks who work at Commons. They are understaffed as-is, and do not need this extra burden. That's not to say that I'm against any sort of linking; there are plenty of other actively maintained tools that produce perfectly valid output, and I would support linking one of those. -FASTILY 06:27, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
- Some of them including MTC! do not produce valid output, i.e. specifying en.wikipedia in the source field, not suggesting any categories or incorrect table syntax. --Leyo 21:27, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Category to be moved to
I am not familiar with enwiki procedures. How do you specify a category on Commons for the file to be moved to in this template? If there is no standard way, may I suggest you add a parameter for this template? We went this way in ukwiki and it works good. --ᛒᚨᛊᛖ (ᛏᚨᛚᚲ) 14:50, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi there! When the template is used with the bot=whatever parameter, the additional text reads "...Please verify that this file is suitable for Commons before transferring it." I would suggest linking the "suitable for commons" part to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Project_scope/Summary (sic) What do you think? --Palosirkka (talk) 14:56, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Add link to FileImporter
Hello! Some users do bad transfers to Commons where they do not get all info copied or they forget to add the upload log. I therefore suggest to add a link to the template:
- Export file to Commons via FileImporter by clicking here and you can read more here.
If the tool is set up right then it is super fast and good to move the files with that tool. --MGA73 (talk) 15:49, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Use Template:Hidden
This edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Please sync this edit from the sandbox. It replaces the NavBox structure with {{hidden}}, which makes the template look better (NavBox’s style-and-behavior nature leads a lot of style overrides to keep just a behavior, but these overrides are not perfect, while {{hidden}} applies almost no visible styling by default, so there’s no need for overrides) and function better (the current version includes a display:none
rule so that the box is closed even before NavFrame’s JavaScript code loads, but this also hides the content permanently if NavFrame is never run, e.g. if JavaScript is disabled or on mobile; MediaWiki’s built-in collapse system used by {{hidden}} includes a CSS rule that hides the content until that JavaScript is loaded, but only if that JavaScript will almost certainly be loaded). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:12, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

link to Commons Blocking policy
{{Edit template-protected}}
Given that it's referring to being blocked on Commons rather than enwiki, it should link to the Commons Blocking policy instead. please change

Looks like it was originally linked by Nyttend in Special:Diff/622833402 however, was changed (accidentally?) to link to the Wikipedia policy by Fastily in Special:Diff/757895872 --Nintendofan885T&Cs apply 09:02, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- That change was deliberate, and I am opposed to changing it back. This caveat is highly relevant locally, because we do in fact block editors on enwp for making consistently poor transfers. -FASTILY 09:15, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Please remove the link to the Wikipedia blocking policy and point it at the Wikimedia Commons blocking policy and update the text to say "blocked from Wikimedia Commons". Wikipedia's blocking policy only applies to Wikipedia actions; the Wikimedia Commons blocking policy is more relevant as a bad transfer violates Commons policy. Aasim (talk) 10:49, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
- Not done @Awesome Aasim: - the warning is about misuse of this template, here on enwiki. Repeatedly misusing the template could result in a block here. I don't think this is great verbiage, but this is about actions here and consequences here. — xaosflux Talk 14:43, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux Can that be made clearer? "Blocked from editing" seems ambiguous. Like:
- "Misuse of this template will result in loss of editing privileges." or something on that line. Aasim (talk) 02:29, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
- It already links to Wikipedia:Blocking policy which is rather clear what it is about? — xaosflux Talk 11:30, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
