Navou, I see what you said on the other page. I spoke with Gmaxwell (a month ago? 2?) when this issue came up last time. As a developer, I figured it would be best to trust him at the time. You have come here because I removed a purge tag, and are probably wondering why. The purge function, available in the Mediawiki software, allows the software to serve a completely fresh page to the user, and not deliver it from the cache. This causes a full re-rendering of the Wikitext, et cetera. Sometimes, people put it on category pages as a "refresh" of sorts. For anonymous users, this does indeed update the category listing. For logged in users, it does not. Categories will update for logged-in users simply by refreshing. If it is not, that is because the job queue has not yet updated, and purging will not speed that up. But by and large maintenence categories aren't viewed by anons, mostly by logged in users. "Purge" puts a heavier load on the server than refreshing and reloading most of the page from cache. ^demon^{[omg plz]} 14:42, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
