Map that didn't play well with others exposes missing documentation

[edit]

My first sighting of this map was on what is, at the time of this writing, the current version of Spafford Farm massacre. There, the map is enclosed in a right-aligned table. The table, as it is rendered by my browser and at my display's particular aspect ratio, lies to the left of the of the {{campaignbox Black Hawk War}} box. As a result of this, some of the text in §Prelude is obscured by the map. I don't know if the display issues around this template arise from improper table markup or from a problem inherent in the template itself.

I have found that by playing with the size of the browser window, the map will move to the right margin below {{campaignbox Black Hawk War}} where it belongs. Positioning of the map is a result of window width only. I expect that on someone else's display this problem might not occur. However, if it happens on mine, it will happen on others.

When I saw this problem I visited the map's template page to see what the template's documentation had to say about its proper use. But there is no documentation to show editors how this template should be implemented in article pages. That omission is inexcusable, regardless of the quality of the Black Hawk War Map template.

I have discovered that the table markup style="text-align:center; float:right; clear:right;" seems to work. It would appear that I've answered my own question. That leaves the template documentation to be done which I will leave to someone who knows the template and can properly accomplish this most important task.

Other things that someone might think about: Why is it necessary to place the template inside a table? It would seem that at a minimum, the template should be stand-alone an not require editors to enclose it in a table. Shouldn't this template seamlessly embed into an infobox template so that it takes the place of the |map...= parameters?
