[edit]Are these really supposed to link to templates? Spiff 12:07, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- I agree that something is not right with this template setup. The top of the template (amino acids, lipids, etc) all link to the template pages. Can a more experienced user help fix this? Also the creater of this template has not added it to all the pages. Shouldn't the template be at the bottom of every page it links to? Biomedeng 00:10, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I fixed the template problem, but the bigger issue is does this template have the things people want in it and should it appear on every page that it links to? Biomedeng 00:36, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm the creator of the linked series of templates. They are intended to be navigational, so it was not a mistake that they linked to the templates instead of the articles. But perhaps it would be good to have both types of links? The other problem — that I didn't include them on all the proper pages — was because I hadn't finished them. For example, almost all the secondary metabolite templates such as {{Alkaloids}}, ({{Flavonoids}} and {{Terpenoids}} need serious work. I know that David.Throop is working on the {{Lipids}} as well. If you'd like to help out, or if you're convinced that they're OK as is, that'd be great! Willow 08:36, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for following up. Sorry if I prematurely changed the template. I guess I found the template by browsing the science navegational boxes category and got interested mainly in the lipids (eicosanoids to be specific). So far things look good and I am a big fan of navigational boxes as both a reader and editor because it gets me to related content I would have never seen. I guess I expected the template to link to the articles the topics were on, because when I am reading a lipids article and see the box below if I click on amino acids I want the amino acids article, not the template. Then I can scroll to the bottom of the amino acids article and click on the various amino acids. Ideally this kind of template would be best suited for some sort of java click over technology whereby I would just scroll my mouse over amino acids to see the listing, but alas I don't think this exists for good reason on wikipedia. I see your rationale as well (especially since it is hard to get to the individual templates since the template isn't on the main article), but as a basic user I am going to be frustrated if I click any link on a template and get a template page instead of another article. I'm relatively new, so I'll probably defer to your judgement on this matter (feel free to change it back) or the wikipedia consensus on templates (if there is one). As for helping out I could probably add a few things to the lipids category, but I am quite unfamiliar with some of these topics (I have never heard of tetrapyrroles before). Best of luck and let me know if you need me to help add the template to the individual pages when you are finished (I'd even recommend starting adding it now even if the template is still in draft form--that way the template gets more attention and more input). added glycosides
[edit]initially I was expanding an article on Devil's Backbone then I sort of started article on daigremontianin (the glycoside the plant contains) then I made a template for glycosides (they are numerous!!) I sortof wanted them to be like sort of a subdivision of carbohydrates but there's this widely used template where they could be added in the headline instead of making three level template - families of biochemicals/carbohydrates/glycosides
plus they can be categorized by the aglycone (what would make them subdivision of the biochemical family the aglycone is of)
and this template is intended to be functional not represent academic classification
so what do you think? Okyea 23:04, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
probably everyone is welcome to correct my grammer; I'm not sure if saying by geometry is ok.

This looks much better when its inserted at the bottom of another template/navbox!

Navbox
[edit]Is there a reason that this template doesn't use a navbox, e.g. as below?

New layout
[edit]IMHO the new layout takes focus from the primary template, example Template:Amino_acids. Before the links to other templates was a two-liner, but now it nearly half of the template. Christian75 (talk) 19:14, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
