[edit]I'm proposing renaming this template as part of a broader move to rename some hatnote templates for clarity. Please participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Hatnotes#Template renaming for clarity. Thanks, {{Nihiltres |talk |edits}} 22:19, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
Not prefixing "Not" with "It is"
[edit]This is not done on Template:Redirect-distinguish for a good reason, so can we do it here? Faster than Thunder (talk) 02:02, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
- Strongly oppose: See my comments below and at Template talk:About-distinguish § Not prefixing "Not" with "It is". — voidxor 16:49, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Please change “it is not to be confused with” to “not to be confused with”, like in the parent template. 182.77.113.148 (talk) 10:18, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Voidxor made the change from "Not.." to "It is not..." just two days ago [1], apparently to match the behaviour of Template:About-distinguish. The parent template you're referring to appears to instead by Template:Distinguish, which has "Not..." (and so does the similarTemplate:Redirect-distinguish). I'm not sure which version is better, but I agree it makes sense to have consistency, at least across the longer templates. – Uanfala (talk) 15:19, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Strongly oppose: Thanks for the ping, Uanfala. I actually changed it primarily because it was an incomplete sentence, yet still had a period. See MOS:BULLETLIST and MOS:CAPTION for stylistic guidelines that discourage that. As you say, I cited the parent template (which would be {{About-distinguish}}; {{Distinguish}} could be called the grandparent). I love consistency as much as the next editor, but the problem here is that consistency should take a back seat to proper grammar. I'd recommend "It is..." be added to {{Distinguish}}, yet that would make no sense when there is not the proceeding sentence saying what the article is about. So, I think we're in a good place. — voidxor 16:38, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the
