Purpose of Template[edit]

  • Is it the intention that this template shall be used in UEFA competition articles? The reason I raise this, is due to the reversal of this edit [1] by this edit [2].
If this template is going to be used as a general football template then great, include all leagues (including unrecognised states and non UEFA/FIFA members).
However, if it is going to be used (as it has been to date) in mainly UEFA competitions such as the UCL or UEFA cup then including non affiliated leagues and leagues from unrecognised countries is surely irrelevant.Georgeg 20:24, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • My intention was to include only the UEFA competitions and leagues belonging to countries whose FAs are UEFA affiliates. I was also thinking about including the domestic cups of these countries too. Ross1 20:44, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • So should "Argentina" and "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" be included? No disrespect to the leagues, but don't you think they seem completely irrelevant figuring at the bottom of the UEFA Cup?! Georgeg 21:01, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the simple solution based the apparent consensus here is to move this template to: Template:2006-07 in European Football (UEFA) and use this criteria to keep this template manageable and relevant. // Laughing Man 23:06, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I feel that this template should do just what the title suggests it would: list all 2006-07 Football Leagues that are actively updated on Wikipedia. I'd see your point if it was titled 2006-07 in UEFA, however it is not. I don't see anything being gained from making a UEFA-only template, aside from shunting other articles out. Argentina, Morocco and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are all being updated for their 2006-07 season, and it's great to have a source that serves as a navigation point for 2006-07 competitions. We can include other competitions in the template as well, granted that they are being updated for the 2006-07 season, instead of having an array of templates doing the same thing in smaller numbers. Also, it'd be nice if Georgeg would stop removing the template from their respective articles until there's any consensus about it. TRNCFootball 23:14, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My point was to simply create a template for each FIFA confederation (COMNEBOL, AFC, CAF), and a template for non-affilated FAs by region. Having 200+ countries competitions in one template is simply not practical and manageable. // Laughing Man 23:58, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, TRNCFootball as you have gone and reverted all my edits to the UEFA articles please justify why you think CONMEBOL (see Argentina) or CAF (see Morocco) affiliated countries should feature at the bottom of European competitions if teams from those countries are not eligible to participate. To quote you: "I'd see your point if it was titled 2006-07 in UEFA, however it is not" would indicate that you are in favour of this template including any FIFA country, in which case it would be irrelevant to include them in an UEFA article. Can’t you see that this way we will end up having all 200 or so FIFA affiliated countries featuring at the bottom of the UEFA Champion’s league? Georgeg 00:05, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What about separating the leagues by FIFA divisions (UEFA, CONMEBOL, etc), and put the Unafiliated at the end? Sounds fair to me.--Mariano(t/c) 14:53, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Overlap?[edit]

Guys isn't this (or the other) an overlap of this -
