Usage

[edit]

When you create or find a new page within the scope of WikiProject Montana please add any of the following to the top of its talk page:

{{WikiProject Montana |class= |importance= }}
{{WikiProject Montana |class= |importance= |Montana cities= |needs-image= |image-details= |topic= |type= |maindykdate= |attention= |listas= }}
{{WikiProject Montana
|class          =
|importance     =
|Montana cities =
|needs-image    =
 |image-details =
|topic          =
|type           =
|maindykdate    =
|attention      =
|listas         =
}}

Unused parameters may be omitted. This template automatically adds articles to Category:WikiProject Montana articles.

Optional parameters

[edit]
  • attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • class – valid values are listed in the custom class mask. See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
  • importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Joseph Toole, use |listas=Toole, Joseph so that the talk page will show up in the T's and not the J's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people § Ordering names in a category.
    If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
  • maindykdate – if a fact from the article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know? column, set |maindykdate=date where date is the date that it appeared on the main page.
  • Montana cities – set |Montana cities=yes if the article is supported by the Montana cities task force.
  • needs-image – set |needs-image=yes to request that an image or photograph be added to the page.
    • type – overrides the default text (image or photograph); also used to categorise the request.
    • image-details – additional text to insert before the words "be added to this article" to describe the subject or type of image that is requested.
    • This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Montana.
    • topic – use in conjunction with |type= to override the above and instead categorise the request into either Wikipedia requested types of topic or Wikipedia requested photographs of topic.
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

Aliases

[edit]
  • The parameter |mtcities= is recognised as an alias for |Montana cities=. If both |Montana cities= and |mtcities= are present, |mtcities= is ignored.
