Usage

[edit]

The {{WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

Syntax

{{WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology
|class=
|A-Class=
|attention=
|imageneeded=
|imagedetails=
|infoboxneeded=
|portal=
|portalbio=
}}

General parameters:

An article's quality assessment is generated from the class parameter in the {{WikiProject Banner Shell}}. Articles that have the {{WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology}} project banner on their talk page will be added to the appropriate categories by quality.

The following values may be used for the class parameter to describe the quality of the article (see Wikipedia:Content assessment for assessment criteria):

FA (for featured articles only; adds articles to Category:FA-Class heraldry and vexillology articles)  FA
A (adds articles to Category:A-Class heraldry and vexillology articles)  A
GA (for good articles only; adds articles to Category:GA-Class heraldry and vexillology articles)  GA
B (adds articles to Category:B-Class heraldry and vexillology articles) B
C (adds articles to Category:C-Class heraldry and vexillology articles) C
Start (adds articles to Category:Start-Class heraldry and vexillology articles) Start
Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class heraldry and vexillology articles) Stub
FL (for featured lists only; adds articles to Category:FL-Class heraldry and vexillology articles)  FL
List (adds articles to Category:List-Class heraldry and vexillology articles) List

For non-standard grades and non-mainspace content, the following values may be used for the class parameter:

Category (for categories; adds pages to Category:Category-Class heraldry and vexillology pages) Category
Disambig (for disambiguation pages; adds pages to Category:Disambig-Class heraldry and vexillology pages) Disambig
Draft (for drafts; adds pages to Category:Draft-Class heraldry and vexillology pages) Draft

Template (for templates and modules; adds pages to Category:Template-Class heraldry and vexillology pages) Template
NA (for any other pages where assessment is unnecessary; adds pages to Category:NA-Class heraldry and vexillology pages) NA
??? (articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unassessed heraldry and vexillology articles) ???

See: Wikipedia:WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology/Assessment for the quality scale.

Maintenance parameters (answer yes to include them):

  • attention - articles needing immediate attention.
  • imageneeded - The article needs an image (other than a map); adds articles to Category:Heraldry and vexillology articles needing images.
    • imagedetails (appears only if imageneeded is set to yes) - Additional details to describe the image that is requested.
  • infoboxneeded - articles needing an infobox.

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.

Notes

[edit]
  • Please use lowercase forms. E.g. imageneeded, imagedetails and yes. The uppercase forms generally do not work.
  • A few redlink categories need fixing to get the Portal / Review functions working. The needed category tree can be seen under the WP:MILHIST project.
  • Task forces are supported but this function has not been activated.
  • The image request feature is listed "below the fold" when used. If people feel this is a problem, please let me know.
  • Please report any other errors if you see them. Thanks! Valentinian (talk) / (contribs) 15:44, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
