A category hatnote for categories for the by-year sub-sub-categories of Category:Sports in the United States by state and year, e.g. Category:1965 in sports in Washington (state).
Adds portal box, category explanation, navbox, and the following parent categories:
- Category:YYYY in American sports by state
- Category:YYY0s in sports in STATE
- Category:YYYY in STATE
- Category:Sports in STATE by year
- For Hawaii only, Category:YYYY in Oceanian sport
Usage

No parameters are needed. The template parses the pagename, and extracts from it the year and name of the state.
Error-checking
[edit]The template checks that the page:
- is a category
- has a title of the form "YYYY in sports in Foo"
If either of those conditions is not met, an error message is displayed and no other output is generated, but the page is added to a tracking category:
- Category:Errors reported by other category header templates (population: 3 pages)
