Template:OHC NRHP
The Ohio History Connection, which serves as Ohio's state historic preservation office, maintains a simple profile page for each Ohio location (with only a few exceptions) that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This template provides a simple method of linking to these profiles.
The URLs for all profile pages follow a simple pattern, http://nr.ohpo.org/Details.aspx?refnum=XXXXXXXX, where "XXXXXXXX" is the eight-digit National Register reference number for the location. Whatever is entered in the first parameter will replace the "XXXXXXXX". Inclusion is mandatory, because the template will not provide a complete URL without this number. Because the template automatically supplies brackets and the remainder of the URL, the second parameter provides the text that will be displayed as the link, and omitting the parameter will cause the link to display as {{{2}}}. Because no content is supplied other than the link, this template will work equally well in a citation and as an external link.
Examples
- {{OHC NRHP|12345678|Words}} and {{OHC NRHP|1=12345678|2=Words}} result in [http://nr.ohpo.org/Details.aspx?refnum=12345678 Words], which displays as Words. This format should always be used.
- {{OHC NRHP|12345678}} and {{OHC NRHP|1=12345678}} result in [http://nr.ohpo.org/Details.aspx?refnum=12345678], which displays as {{{2}}}. This format is not ideal, but it will suffice for a link.
- {{OHC NRHP}} results in [http://nr.ohpo.org/Details.aspx?refnum=], which displays as {{{2}}} — this links to the OCH's database search page.
- {{OHC NRHP|Words}} results in [http://nr.ohpo.org/Details.aspx?refnum=Words], which displays as {{{2}}} and links to a nonexistent page. This is the result of omitting the reference number but supplying the name, without specifying that it fills the second parameter.
- {{OHC NRHP|2=Words}} results in [http://nr.ohpo.org/Details.aspx?refnum={{{1}}}], which displays as Words — again, a nonexistent page.
