This template is to help users write non-free use rationales for non-free serial publication covers and other serial publication art as required by WP:NFC and WP:NFURG. Include this in the image file, once for each time you insert the publication art image into an article.

This template is optimized for serial publication cover art used in the article about the publication. It may or may not work in other contexts. For example, this non-free use rationale may not be appropriate for images of books.

Before saving, try the "preview" feature to review the text produced by this template. Be sure the language is true and complete. If not, consider using the override fields, a different template, or a hand-written justification.

Explanation of fields

Parameter	Explanation
Format	Format of the template: Full - full non-free use rationale template (Template:Non-free use rationale) - default Data - displays media data fields only (Template:Non-free media data) Rationale - displays non-free use rationale fields (Template:Non-free media rationale)
Article	Article name, no brackets.
Use	How is the image used in the article? Choose one: Infobox - in the infobox for the article about the serial publication Header - top of article about the serial publication Section - in a section devoted to the serial publication Author - in an article about the author (be careful here) Other - some other use. Describe in "Purpose"
Optional fields
Type	The type of publication. (e.g. journal, magazine, etc., default is serial publication)
Title	Name of serial publication, if different from article.
Volume	If part of a multi-volume series, the volume number of the cover.
Issue	The issue number of the cover.
Author	The author or creator of the publication.
Illustrator	The illustrator of the serial publication.
Publisher	The publisher of the serial publication.
Cover_artist	The cover artist of the issue.
Website	If taken from the web, where?
Owner	Who owns the copyright, if known.
Commentary	Discuss any commentary in the article about the cover art itself.
Portion	If you did not use the whole cover, which part did you use?
Override fields
Description	Additional information about serial publication or artwork
Source	If not from the website, specifically where and how did you get the image?
Low resolution	If the image is unusually large or small, why?
Purpose	If use is not one of the above categories, explain how you use it.
Replaceability	Explain why the image cannot be replaced with free use, if boilerplate explanations are not accurate.
Other information	Any other information you think helps the image's non-free use case.
