Template:Link risk/doc
Appearance
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Link risk. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
link risk is for displaying URLs that are potentially security or malware risks. Typically this would occur if a browser warns of security or malware risk on the URL, or if the URL or its domain was reported as a potential risk.
Usage
[edit]{{link risk|http://example.com}}
- produces:
http://example-com
[potential badlink]
It creates 3-levels of protection. The link is non-active; the domain is modified to make cut and paste troublesome; the "[potential badlink]" message links to this doc.
Best practices
[edit]- If the URL is in a citation template like
{{cite web}}
, add an|archive-url=
and set|url-status=unfit
.
- Example:
{{cite web |url=http://example.com |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200101/https://example.com |archive-date=2020-01-01 |url-status=usurped}}
- Example:
- If in a square link add an archive URL directly, unless the archive itself presents a risk:
- Example:
[https://web.archive.org/web/20200101/https://example.com]
.
- Example:
- If no archive URL can be found, or new archives can't be added due to edit filters / blacklist:
- Replace the link with
{{link risk}}
per the above Usage section. - If the link is determined to be hazardous enough, delete it entirely from the system at your discretion.
- Replace the link with
