This template exists to provide a simple way of providing a link from an article on a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom to their index page on the Hansard 1803–2005 website at https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/, a website built from the data of the Hansard Digitisation project.
Hansard is the official record of proceedings in the House of Commons, and this site provides a full copy of proceedings from 1803 to 2005.
Each member's page list lists their dates of birth and death, and dates for which they represented each constituency which elected them.
The URL of each member's index page takes the form of https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/people/title-first-name-surname, e.g.
- Mr Tony Blair https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/people/mr-tony-blair
- Mrs Margaret Thatcher https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/people/mrs-margaret-thatcher
Note that titles appear not to be applied consistently, so
... but
All members are listed at https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/people/, where the URL for their index page can be found. Suffixes may be added to distinguish ambiguous names, so it is important to check that the URL used refers to the correct person.
