Turtle Park

[edit]

Created by Tavix (talk). Self-nominated at 02:49, 6 November 2015 (UTC).

  • Unusual park is succinctly and accurately described. Sources (except for the unavailable offline book, a minor issue) accurately confirm footnoted facts. No NPOV issues or copyvio problems. Long enough. Recent. Good hook. Vesuvius Dogg (talk) 17:10, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
@Vesuvius Dogg: Thanks for the review! If it helps rectify your minor issue, that book is available on Google Books. Here's a link to the page I used. -- Tavix (talk) 18:59, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
@Tavix: I've gone ahead and hyperlinked that Google Books cite in the footnote, which may be important because it's the fact cited in your hook. (It also checks out by looking individually at the seven species of turtle; they are all indeed endemic to Missouri.) Image is appropriately licensed; it doesn't specifically mark Turtle Park, but the text makes clear it's adjacent to the motorway and just to the south of, and visible from, the zoo. As far as I can tell, on every front we're good to go Vesuvius Dogg (talk) 19:49, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
@Vesuvius Dogg: Turtle Park is actually marked on that map, just not very visibly. Click on it and zoom in just south of the Zoo and you'll see it at that intersection. -- Tavix (talk) 01:37, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
@Tavix: Aha—now I see it, in the fine print! Would you mind if I went to WP:Graphics Lab and asked them to create an image with a red arrow, perhaps, pointing to Turtle Park? Or perhaps otherwise signaling (perhaps with a star, or larger lettering) where it is on the .svg? It's a quick and easy job for them. Vesuvius Dogg (talk) 03:24, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
@Vesuvius Dogg: I wouldn't mind, that's actually a pretty good idea. -- Tavix (talk) 03:46, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
@Tavix: I put in a request here. Vesuvius Dogg (talk) 18:00, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Sorry folks, have to unpromote this one as it has been removed. Fram (correctly) pointed out that endemic does not mean 'native'...sooooooo, the hook should be:

ALT1... that Turtle Park contains concrete sculptures of seven turtle species that are native to Missouri?

Now that I have made this ALT1 I can't promote it, so @Vesuvius Dogg: you okay with it? Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:31, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

NB: For what it's worth, Earwigs is ok Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:36, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

As this article already spent 11 hours on the main page, it should no longer be eligible for another run. Please just close the nomination again. Fram (talk) 12:40, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

Aah, my bad (I thought from your post you'd picked it up just beforehand). I hadn't realised. I will archive it after I type this. Cas Liber (talk · contribs)
