Trust Exercise (novel)
[edit]... that American novelist Susan Choi remembers being really mad whilst writing her novel Trust Exercise?Source: [1]
- Reviewed: Wu Ziliang
Created by CAPTAIN MEDUSA (talk). Self-nominated at 12:28, 8 June 2019 (UTC).
- A new hook is probably needed: it is not uncommon for authors to be mad while writing, and the hook lacks context as to how her case is special. In addition, the article needs a copyedit due to grammatical errors and typos. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 10:03, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
- ALT2:
... that in the book review of Trust Exercise, Ron Charles of The Washington Post wrote "This author never takes you where you thought you were going, but have faith: You won’t be disappointed."?Source:[2]

- It sounds like a rather bland hook sadly, even if it was reworded into a more succinct form of English. Give me a day or two and I'll try to help out with possible alternative hooks. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:15, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- I apologize for the late reply. While I mostly came up with a blank, I did think of one suggestion: I found it interesting that the book seemed to have been at least partly inspired by both the election of Trump and the author's breakup with her husband. Perhaps a hook based on either or both might work? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:01, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

- ALT3:... that the novel Trust Exercise's main plot about sexual assault was inspired from the Donald Trump Access Hollywood tape?

- It's a hookier hook, but due to possible BLP concerns as well as the Trump mention I think we may need a second opinion on its appropriateness. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:19, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
- I also fear there'd be a BLP neutrality issue in
directlyclosely associating sexual assault with the tape and Trump. What if this was a little closer to the Vulture.com source, with "was inspired by discussions [of sexual abuse which emerged] following the publication of the Donald Trump Access Hollywood tape?" Removing the bracketed part would make it less wordy, but also less clear. – Reidgreg (talk) 20:11, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

- Full review needed by new reviewer, including the hooks—these has never been a basic review of the nomination. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:02, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Hook eligibility:
- Cited: - ALT0 and ALT2 are struck. ALT3, and Reidgreg's suggestion, are not in the article, so would need to be added.
- Interesting: - ALT3, if it can be worded neutrally, and added to the article with appropriate citations, might well catch readers' attention. Something like:
- ALT4:... that the novel Trust Exercise was inspired by discussions about sexual abuse which followed the publication of the Donald Trump Access Hollywood tape?
- Personally, I find the reviewers' remarks intriguing, so I would suggest something like:
ALT5:... that reviewers wrote that the novel Trust Exercise "takes such an unexpected turn" and "never takes you where you thought you were going"?
QPQ: Done. |
Overall: Earwig picks up the quotes, but they are clearly signalled as quotes, with citations.
- Reidgreg, would you like to consider ALT4 and ALT5, please, and if you prefer ALT4, do the necessary edits on the article? RebeccaGreen (talk) 15:17, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Not my nom (I haven't read the book) but I tried adding for ALT4. – Reidgreg (talk) 18:11, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry, Reidgreg! and thank you, that provides a source and context for ALT4, and also rounds the article out a bit more (it seemed to finish a bit abruptly).

This now requires another reviewer to approve a hook, as I suggested two. Both now are included in the article with sources. The article creator prefers ALT4, and I think that is probably catchier for more people than ALT5, but I can't approve my own suggested hook. RebeccaGreen (talk) 19:00, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Approving ALT4. Actually, it was another editor who suggested the wording for ALT4, just under ALT3, but without an ALT number, so I think it should be OK for me to approve it. Please let me know if it's not! RebeccaGreen (talk) 23:58, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
