Tristram's Jird

[edit]

Created/expanded by Stemonitis (talk). Self nom at 15:47, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

  • - The subject seems to confused in the hook. "that records of Tristram's Jird", makes the records the subject, "are the only gerbils reported" is referring to the gerbils themselves. It should be one or the other. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 21:57, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
How about ALT1? My only concern is that it may suggest there is currently a population on Kos, which isn't so clear. We know there was one, but it's quite likely that it has been extirpated there. ALT2 seems less snappy – it takes a long time to get to the subject – but may be better in other ways. --Stemonitis (talk) 05:56, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Ok, I'm suggesting ALT3 which makes the reports/sightings the subject. Added "wild", because I'm sure people have seen their pets. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 20:36, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I suppose that's OK, but does it make it sound a bit like a cryptid? It's difficult to convey pithily that there definitely has been a population on Kos, and it may still be there, or it may not, and the population that is or was there is the only one in Europe. --Stemonitis (talk) 05:59, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I don't think that's a danger, as people know that gerbils are real. If they get curious they can read the article, but I think it's clear enough. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 03:29, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Adding a square crop of image for DYK thumbnail. Freakin' adorable. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 04:20, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the ALTs, and for the crop. It's all much improved. Let's go with ALT3, as you suggested. --Stemonitis (talk) 06:00, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
No problem! I can't review it because I suggested an ALT, but it's looking good-to-go. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 06:06, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
  • - I can't review because I suggested an alt, so this is waiting on a review. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 05:14, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
  • 5x expansion began on April 30, the day this was submitted, and total is over 1500 characters (both according to DYKcheck). Article is neutral, cites inline sources throughout. All hooks struck except ALT3; ALT3 is approved as being well under 200 characters (counts as 141), the hook facts appear in the article, are specifically cited, and are neutral. QPQ has been done. Picture is free (from Wikimedia commons), shows up well, and is used in the article; this is a crop of the photo from the article's infobox. Well done! BlueMoonset (talk) 01:27, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
