[1]: "The Chinese negotiator who signed the treaty barely escaped with his life. The court commuted his death sentence, and he died in obscurity ... It has never been adequately explained how such an experienced official could have signed a treaty which the Chinese government immediately labeled as inimical to its interests and counter to its explicit instructions."

Great work expanding Chonghou! Unfortunately it still falls short of the required 5x expansion. The pre-expansion article had about 1900 characters, while the current version has about 6300 characters of readable prose. It needs 9500 characters to qualify for DYK.
