Solar activity

[edit]

X1.2 class solar flare on May 14, 2013

  • ... that solar activity and related events have been regularly recorded since the time of the Babylonians in the 8th century BCE?
  • Reviewed: Peruvian thick-knee
  • Comment: Also a new article, as it was a disambiguation page prior to 25 August 2014.

5x expanded by WikiProject Today's articles for improvement (talk). Nominated by Evad37 (talk) at 10:03, 30 August 2014 (UTC).

  • Comment Because we reused so much content from other articles, does this still qualify for a DYK by meeting the 1500 word "new content" criteria? --NickPenguin(contribs) 12:39, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
    • Well, the Observation history section is all new material, and I think the lead might be too. The total from those two sections [1] is currently 9197 characters (1481 words) readable prose size. So that's close, and I plan to expand and maybe rewrite the lead tomorrow, so if reviewers could hold off till then, we should be alright. - Evad37 [talk] 13:28, 30 August 2014 (UTC)— Actually, per WP:DYK, the length required is 1,500 characters, not words. - Evad37 [talk] 15:58, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

Request to add bracket to end ... that solar activity and related events have been regularly recorded since the time of the Babylonians in the 8th century BCE? (TAFI article)

  • Comment: I like the WikiProject TAFI mention. Also, I've added an image to this DYK nomination. NorthAmerica1000 19:10, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
  • As adding the little "TAFI article" is an unusual request, it should probably be discussed at WT:DYK. Better to have the consensus of project regulars, rather than just a potentially inexperienced reviewer and possibly subsequent drama. - Evad37 [talk] 00:37, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

CME Erupts on the Sun - August 31, 2012

ALT1 ... that the brightness of the Sun varies with the level of solar activity?

  • Alternative fact – could also use one of the above images - Evad37 [talk] 00:37, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Article new enough (5x on 25 August 2014), (easily) long enough (28,734 characters), fully referenced. Hook and ALT verified. QPQ not required. Image licences okay. Good to go! Hawkeye7 (talk) 08:51, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Note: the second image is a Featured picture. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 19:01, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

A solar flare erupts from the sun

ALT2 ... that solar activity and related events (solar flare pictured) have been recorded since the time of the Babylonians in the 8th century BCE? (TAFI article)

  • The image appeared on the Main Page as the Featured Picture a few days ago, on September 5, so I would recommend that a different image be selected for DYK. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 05:02, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
  • The image at the top of this discussion could be used. NorthAmerica1000 05:12, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
