Sojourner (rover)
- ... that the first successful Mars rover, Sojourner (pictured), was named after a Civil-War-era African-American abolitionist and women's rights advocate Sojourner Truth? Source: "Valerie Ambroise, 12, of Bridgeport, CT, submitted the winning essay about Sojourner Truth, an African-American reformist who lived during the Civil War era."

- GA:DYK nomination: Hook is interesting and within prescribed limits, and is well sourced. Images are in the public domain or are from the U.S.gov (NASA), However, there is one image that is 'fair use', which is not allowed in DYK nominations, per DYK criteria. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:06, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review! I'm new to DYK process, but the rules say "Pictures and videos used in all DYK articles should be suitably licensed: PD, GFDL, CC, etc., including fair use where appropriately applied." (WP:DYKIMG). As that image wouldn't be on the main page, isn't it ok to have a fair use image in the article? Artem.G (talk) 20:09, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
- When you click on the edit tab of your (or any) DYK template, listed under Other, it says no fair use allowed. Yes, fair use images are not allowed on the main page, which applies to all fair use images used in any article. We could consult a third opinion if you like, or we could simply remove the image for the time being, and return it to the article after the article has been listed on the front page. If you decide to temporarily remove the fair use image the article will be unquestionably good to go. Your call. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 20:26, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
- I think you're misinterpeting the rules here Gwillhickers. The only prohibition is that fair use images cannot be used as the hook image for hooks (i.e. we can't use the picture from The Martian to accompany the hook, though the current image is fine). I don't think there's anything in the rules which prohibit fair use images from being used at all in articles featured on DYK; if that were the case, there'd be a ton of ineligible articles, including pretty much any article on notable characters or episodes. - Looking at the notice again, I think the "be free (no fair use)" message is definitely referring to hook pictures, not pictures on DYK articles in general. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:16, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5 and Artem.G: — Yes, you're probably right. Okay then. The article is good to go! -- Gwillhickers (talk) 17:34, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Gwillhickers and Artem.G: I'm seeing several unsourced paragraphs—as a general rule, each paragraph should have a citation at the end of its last sentence. Any chance that this could be cleared up before I promote? theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 20:53, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I'll do it today or tomorrow. Artem.G (talk) 06:15, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Theleekycauldron: done. I've commented one unsourced sentence, and provided refs for all others (it was probably during the rewrite when I swapped these pieces without moving the refs accordingly). Artem.G (talk) 07:01, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
