Selle Français

[edit]
  • ... that the Selle Français is a French sport horse, recognized internationally as a top breed for show jumping and three-day eventing?
  • Reviewed: Not a self-nomination

Improved to Good Article status by Dana boomer (talk), Montanabw (talk). Nominated by Oceanh (talk) at 12:45, 16 August 2014 (UTC).

  • The article was listed as good article on 16 August, it is long enough, and the hook is properly referenced. Maybe the terms show jumping and eventing could be wikilinked? – Editør (talk) 14:04, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
  • @Editør: did you check the sources for close paraphrasing? Also, the hook fact(s) need to be cited at the end of the sentences in which they appear, per DYK rules. Yoninah (talk) 20:49, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
The first sentence of the section "Uses" contains the content of the hook. It quotes a French website and two offline French sources. Why are you suspecting a problem with close paraphrasing here? – Editør (talk) 09:47, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
I don't suspect anything. I'm just asking if you checked. GA is not DYK; I have found close paraphrasing in other nominations. What about the hook fact citation? Yoninah (talk) 09:51, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
I had checked the hook, as I mentioned in my original review. Also, I just explained to you where the hook facts are in the article and that the sentence has three (different) inline citations. All three sources are in French. I have no access to the offline sources, but the online source seems to support the facts. I see no problem with passing the DYK nomination if you have no suspicions. – Editør (talk) 10:07, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
FWIW, User:Dana boomer did most of the work to bring this to GA, and she's not edited since early June, so I only shepherded the GAN through the process, having earlier taken that base article up to C or maybe B class. She's an experienced editor and to the best of my knowledge is not prone to close paraphrasing. The other user who contributed here was Tsaag Valren, who has multiple GA and FA-class articles on fr.wiki and was helping Dana with incorporating material from the GA-class article about the same breed on fr.wiki. The hook is cited in the body text to footnotes 4 and 5. Dana has an English version of the Edwards book, and I presume checked it (Dana has multiple GA-class articles, she's very thorough and has an excellent reputation on-wiki as a capable editor.) I ran a Google translation of the French citation and I have to say that Google totally sucks at French, but here it says in one spot "It occupies the podium in the world ranking of races [i.e. breeds] (WBFSH) show jumping and eventing", and in another, "Historically, the French saddle has become one of the best horses in the world for competitions jumping (CSO) and Eventing (CEC)." So I thinking that it"s OK. Montanabw(talk) 18:34, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
Hello. In french, the Selle français article is an "old good article", so it need complements. But "It occupies the podium in the world ranking of races [i.e. breeds] (WBFSH) show jumping and eventing" is true, you can verufy here : http://www.wbfsh.org/GB/Rankings/Horse%20and%20studbook%20rankings/2013.aspx . --Tsaag Valren (talk) 07:52, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
