Ruth Lyttle Satter Prize in Mathematics
[edit]- ... that the Ruth Lyttle Satter Prize in Mathematics is awarded bi-annually for outstanding research by a woman? – Source: "The Satter Prize recognizes an outstanding contribution to mathematics research by a woman in the previous six years." ([1])

- New enough, just barely long enough at 400 to just over 2000 characters, Earwig detects no copyvios, QPQ done, within policy. Hook checks out but I'd like to see if there's a more interesting fact: maybe that it was endowed by Satter's sister, or that Maryam Mirzakhani won it the year before she won the Fields Medal. - @Antony-22: I'm not sure the Fields Medal is well-known enough for it to be mentioned without explanation, but could try this:
ALT1: ... that the endowment for the Ruth Lyttle Satter Prize in Mathematics was provided by Satter's sister?Harrias talk 09:39, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
- Upon a closer look, the source says the prize was established by Birman, and doesn't mention a donation or endowment. (This might be established in other sources. I think the Fields Medal is reasonably recognizable, so I'd like to make these suggestions. Tell me what you think. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 00:06, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

- ALT2b: ... that Maryam Mirzakhani (pictured) won the Ruth Lyttle Satter Prize for women in mathematics a year before she won mathematics' highest honor, the Fields Medal, for the same work?

- I generally prefer shorter hooks, but they're fine by me. We could go the whole hog and suggest a picture too. Harrias talk 08:19, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

- Struck 2c per WP:EASTEREGG; the Fields Medal link would be more interesting and tempting to click on than the bolded link, something we want to avoid. Harrias talk 06:42, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Approving ALT2a and ALT2b, which check out with inline citations. --Usernameunique (talk) 19:08, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
