Roses and Castles
- ... that the "gaudy" stylised floral paintings used to decorate narrowboats and their fittings (example pictured) may have originated from decorations on Romani wagons? "The most generally accepted theory sees som connection between Romany gypsies and the boatmen [...] the floral decorations would be a continuation of their way of life" (Lewery, 1974, p26–27); "There are obvious links with traveller culture and their elaborately painted caravans" (CRT, undated); "gaudy" quote per article, reproduced verbatim in Lewery, 1974, p26

- Hi MIDI, review follows: article created 3 June; article exceeds minimum length; article is well written and cited inline throughout to reliable sources; I didn't pick up on any overly close paraphrasing from the online sources, AGF on the offline works; hook is interesting and mentioned in the article; hook partly verified by online sources, partly offline (AGF); a QPQ has been carried out. Excellent work, my dad occasionally used to paint these for boatmen so it's nice to see an article on this style - Dumelow (talk) 04:59, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- Doh, forgot the image. Did you paint the tray yourself? If so the tag is correct. Otherwise, I think as a representation of two dimensional artwork the original artwork needs to be public domain also - Dumelow (talk) 05:01, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- Ah, damn. Yeah you're right. I've definitely got some items somewhere that I could photograph and get permission (painted by family members etc. who would be happy for it to be used) so if we can hold off on this for a few days I'll try to get something sorted—it seems a missed opportunity to run an art-related hook without a depiction of the style! - Sure thing, not a problem. Just give me a ping when you're ready - Dumelow (talk) 11:07, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
- @MIDI: it has been 3 weeks since your last post. Please give us an update so we can complete this review. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 18:55, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- In the worst case this can always run without an image - Dumelow (talk) 05:59, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Dumelow: OK. Could you give a tick for the nomination without the image? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 08:24, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- Good to run as a non-image hook - Dumelow (talk) 08:48, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping guys. I'll try to get an image for this this evening, but failing that I'd happily have this go without photo... MIDI (talk) 10:53, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
