Robert Byron Tabor

  • ... that Robert Byron Tabor's first major painting was put on display in the White House by Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife? Source: "When he showed Wood his paintings, he was promptly rejected". "A month later, Tabor delivered a finished painting titled Vendue, which depicted the sale of an Iowa farm...it brought him national recognition" "The exhibition was viewed by President and Mrs. Roosevelt, who selected a number of works for display in the White House. Tabor's painting was among those chosen, and, although it was never listed as White House property, it may have remained there until the late 1940s or early 1950s." - Iowa Heritage Illustrated Spring 2000
    • ALT1: ... that Robert Byron Tabor's last major painting was of the Van Allen radiation belt discovery? Source: "In Tabor's last significant painting, the Iowa-born astrophysicist James A. Van Allen and three of his co-workers are shown at the moment in 1958 that they realized that the earth is surrounded by zones of radiation, called the Van Allen radiation belts. - Iowa Heritage Illustrated Spring 2000

  • Interesting life and art, on few but good sources. I think both hooks miss the key thing about him - that he was a self-taught painter who began at age 51 - but if that's what you want to say, I won't be in the way. Original preferred because of the famous names, which also put him in a time frame. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:17, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Gerda Arendt I was planning on adding that information to the hook, but I figured that someone might complain about there being too much information. SL93 (talk) 22:26, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
