Palais du Peuple (Kinshasa)

[edit]

The People's Palace of the DRC in 2009

  • Comment: There's discussion over the name of the article, it shouldn't affect the substance of the nomination. Including spaces, the current hook is exactly 200 characters.
  • Reviewed: Alan Carvalho

Created by Medeis (talk). Self nominated at 21:26, 24 January 2015 (UTC).

  • It is new (created 4 days ago), long enough, and within policy. All statements are sourced here. I used a plagiarism detector and found no evidence of copyvios. The hook is just the right length, and the content is interesting. Medeis, you should probably do a QPQ, though; otherwise, it is good to go. Epic Genius (talk) 16:41, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I did spend about 90 minutes looking at some old nominations but didn't comment on them following the advice nihil nisi bonum. I'll see if I can review something more recent. μηδείς (talk) 16:59, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
@Medeis: Have you gotten a chance to review another DYK yet? Epic Genius (talk) 15:35, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
Well, I managed to break my toe in a minor fall tues, spend all day at the doctor's, xray, etc., yesterday, and have a project due for work Friday afternoon that I really should do by tonight, so I will probably have some time to spend at length this weekend. I'll ping you if you like. μηδείς (talk) 17:32, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
@Medeis: A ping will be good. Epic Genius (talk) 18:25, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi, @Epicgenius:. I have reviewed the Alan Carvalho nomination here, tagged the article for a few minor cn issues, and suggested the hook be reworded. I can also read Portuguese, so I put a note advising that portuguese sources would be okay if English ones weren't forthcoming. μηδείς (talk) 21:09, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
@Medeis: The QPQ looks thorough. This article is good to go now. Epic Genius (talk) 21:13, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
  • The article name has changed. Also, there are a few bald URLs in the reflist. Yoninah (talk) 00:24, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Thanks, Yoninah. The change of the article name is fine, and I won't contest consensus, nor do I actually disagree with it, if you look at the article's talk page. I won't be able to take care of any bare URL's for about 48 hours, as I am currently in the middle of a paying project that I need done before bed Thurs NYC time. μηδείς (talk) 03:33, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Thanks for everybody's help! I added what information is available to the country study link. I am pinging you now, @Epicgenius:, hopefully this is good to go. μηδείς (talk) 20:32, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
*I went ahead and formatted all the references, and added ISBN numbers for the books. Yoninah (talk) 21:21, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
    • This looks good now. I am relatively new at DYK, so I hope there aren't mistakes I have overlooked. Epic Genius (talk) 22:51, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
I oppose that hook, that a building was built with a credit line is terribly mundane, the building's place in history is what's important. The point of a catchy hook is to draw attention, not to be short. Here's a shorter alternative:
...*ALT2 ... that the Democratic Republic of the Congo's People's Palace was built by Mobutu Sese Seko, but Laurent Kabila, who overthrew him, would lay in state there after his own assassination? Medeis (talk) 00:10, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes! That's quite excellent. (And I am a paid writer.) I have changed the was to had been since it had been commissioned before Mobuto's overthrow and Kabila's death. μηδείς (talk) 21:43, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Striking other hooks. Since I just moved around your words from ALT0, I'll go ahead and approve this. Hook refs verified and cited inline. Image is freely-licensed. ALT3 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 22:02, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
