Pacific Islands home front during World War II

[edit]

  • Comment: I came across this article while new page patrolling and thought it deserved a place at DYK despite being a couple of days late for nomination.

Created by Dushan Jugum (talk). Nominated by Cwmhiraeth (talk) at 10:34, 1 February 2019 (UTC).

  • I made two very minor stylistic copyedits—linking (and capitalizing the second word in) Pacific Islanders, and adding the word "sudden" (used in the article text). I doubt either change is objectionable, but please let me know if they are.
Otherwise: as noted by Cwmhiraeth, this nomination comes slightly late, but the lateness is fairly waived considering the high quality of the article (and the fact that this is not a self-nomination, meaning someone other than the author is vouching for it); long enough (14.8 characters, approx. 7.8k characters of pure unformatted prose); within policy on every major consideration, with the copyvio detector finding nothing; hook is formatted correctly (155 characters of text); really interesting topic; cited to an offline print source, taken on good faith (especially in light of how well-known the historical phenomenon and its origins in the Pacific Islands are); neutral; and finally, QPQ checks out (especially generous given that, again, this is not a self-nomination). Great work, to both writer and nominator. —BLZ · talk 05:38, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
@Dushan Jugum and Cwmhiraeth: can you add a citation to the sentence "In those societies, like New Zealand, where a portion of the young men enlisted, women took up the professions left vacant." or merge it to another paragraph? feminist (talk) 10:45, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
@Feminist: Done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 14:11, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
