O. D. Anosike

[edit]
  • ... that college basketball player Oderah Anosike was nicknamed "O. D." as a child because too many people had trouble pronouncing his given name?

Created by Jrcla2 (talk). Self nominated at 22:00, 1 March 2013 (UTC).

  • Did a fair amount of cleanup to tighten it up. Fulfills all criteria - long enough, new enough, no serious editorial or content issues, and the hook is cited. I think the hook is a bit boring though so would offer this ALT:
  • I have multiple issues with this review. For one, you incorrectly moved "O. D. Anosike" to "O.D. Anosike" despite WP:MOS conventions for names. Also, you honestly think your new proposed hook is better than my original one? How much more boring and straightforward can you possibly get with your hook. I wholly reject the proposed hook. • Comment I've also moved the page back to O. D. Anosike since it was wrongly moved in the first place. Jrcla2 (talk) 01:26, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Comment. Just for the record, the MOS does not dictate that a space should be present between initials (nor does it specify that it shouldn't be there). A space generally is used (which may be why you refer to MOS conventions), and my personal preference is to do so, but it is not required by the MOS. I'll see if I can find the relevant MOS page.... • Okay, it's at WP:INITS, which further says that if a space is used between initials in text, it should be a non-breaking space, so I've replaced those spaces in the hooks. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 08:01, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Comment: wherever the article page ought to be, once this template has been created it should not be moved even if the article page does. All sorts of automated processes can get messed up when this template is moved/renamed. Incidentally, I agree that ALT1 is less interesting than the original hook. • Jrcla2, sincere apologies for the MOS mix up. Didn't mean to give you extra work. And regarding the hook, I just think his rebounding record is a lot more notable than his nickname, but whatever you wish. Perhaps this re-wording of the original hook would be a bit more clear:
  • ALT2... that college basketball player Oderah Anosike has gone by the nickname "O. D." since childhood because in kindergarten his classmates had trouble pronouncing his given name? Plot Spoiler (talk) 05:04, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
  • ALT3... that college basketball player O. D. Anosike was nicknamed "O. D." as a child after his kindergarten classmates struggled to pronounce his given name, Oderah?
Proposing ALT3 over ALT2. He got the name in kindergarten, but it doesn't explain why it remained since childhood. Also, I would prefer the name of the article be used over a pipe. A link to college basketball is helpful to non-sports fan, and non-American not familiar with college sports system.—Bagumba (talk) 01:58, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
I'm good with ALT3 if the reviewing promoter accepts it. Jrcla2 (talk) 14:46, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
I think ALT3 is great. Plot Spoiler (talk) 15:03, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
