Growing up in Carlisle, he recalls a friend of the family showing him some back issues of the industry journal New Civil Engineer. "I remember looking at the jobs pages with these marvellous salaries of up to £3,000 a year! And vacancies abroad, especially in Africa. I really fancied travelling the world. I didn’t really have any idea what civil engineering was but it sounded exciting. So I decided that would be the career for me."

Michael Martin’s mother used to tell him a story about the day a stranger dragged her young son home to Denton Street. This gentleman had caught the three-year-old Michael scampering along the outside of Holme Head Bridge, which begins at the end of the street and crosses the River Caldew, leading to Maryport Cottages and the Currock footbridge

Ready! The article looks and feels fine and the hooks are good too (except for the second one); I have also edited the third hook a bit, feel free to revert if you don't like it. Also, there are no plagiarism, copyvio or other apparent concerns. This one is as good as done in books.
