Mezquital Valley

[edit]

Created by Thelmadatter (talk). Nominated by Carabinieri (talk) at 15:03, 4 March 2013 (UTC).

  • This hook is confusing, and doesn't seem to be entirely about the Mezquital Valley. How about:
  • ALT1: ... that the Mezquital Valley was once the seat of the Toltec civilization?" Ego White Tray (talk) 05:02, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Hooks don't have to be only about the main article. Why is it confusing?--Carabinieri (talk) 06:32, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Article is new enough, long enough, well-sourced. The page creator has done a thorough job covering the subject. The majority of online sources are in Spanish, so I am not able to check for close paraphrasing, but knowing this page creator's work and also seeing the way she structures her sentences, I trust that close paraphrasing has been avoided. No QPQ necessary, as another editor nominated the page.
  • Regarding the hook, I agree with Ego White Tray that the original hook is not great. Lumping all the semi-arid regions together into 60% of Mexican territory is just not interesting. ALT1 is OK, but the fact that really jumped out at me when I read the page was:
  • ALT2: ... that the Mezquital Valley produces one-quarter of all green chili peppers grown in Mexico?
  • There are two phrases in the article that don't make sense; maybe a word is missing? They are:
  1. Geography and Environment - first paragraph: It is defined history and culture as well as ecology, especially the hydrology of rivers and streams such as the Tula, Alfajayucan, Arroyo Zarco, Rosas, Salado and others.
  2. Geography and Environment - third paragraph: What are y reeds?
  • the "y reeds" is a typo which I have fixed. Instead of the valley being defined by mountains surrounding it (as it consists of a number of smaller valleys), the rivers and the area they drain also define it.Thelmadatter (talk) 22:04, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks for making those corrections. So which ALT hook do you prefer – or do you have another suggestion? Yoninah (talk) 18:51, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
  • The green chili one. The Toltecs were in the far south of the valley and never dominated it as far as we know.Thelmadatter (talk) 20:39, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Great. But since I wrote it, I have to leave it to another editor to give the stamp of approval. Nice working with you. Yoninah (talk) 21:06, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Good to go, with the two Spanish refs taken AGF (although the translations by Google Translate seem consistent with the claim). Everything else looks fine to me. Chamal TC 17:50, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
