Macrozamia riedlei
[edit]- ... that the cycad species Macrozamia riedlei (pollen cones pictured) was possibly responsible for poisoning Dutch sailors in 1897 - the earliest for an Australian plant?Source for poisoning. Offline one has earliest for native plant
5x expanded by Casliber (talk), and MargaretRDonald (talk). Nominated by Casliber (talk) at 09:47, 18 November 2018 (UTC).
- Good expansion on many sources, offline sources accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. The image is licensed and a good illustration. I'd be happy stopping the hook after the year, - the "first" doesn't add too much. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:41, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking it over, good to get copyedits. I would have said, [see ALT 1]That is well documented in the contemporary sources, and most since, which I should be able to link via scan. cygnis insignis 13:55, 23 November 2018 (UTC) edit: extract hook2 17:31, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- Feel free to word an ALT1, with pictured, and possibly mentioning Australia somewhere. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:37, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- ALT1: ... that a favoured food plant of southwest Australia's peoples, Macrozamia riedlei (pollen cones pictured), was responsible for the accidental poisoning of the earliest European explorers?
- ALT1 image: cultivated* plant,
File:Macrozamia riedlei Furnas 2015 (02).jpg*most were- Casliber, what do you think? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:45, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, an improvement. I like it Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 19:15, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- I tried to squeeze the original hook in there, if it is awkward you could flip the order of food and poison. The first image is better to, I struck the option. cygnis insignis 19:27, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- ALT1 preferred, - I added pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:26, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I came by to promote this but I'm not sure whether the article states exclusively that southwestern Australians love this food plant. Pinging Cygnis insignis, Casliber and MargaretRDonald. VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 06:05, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for having a look, if there is some confusion I am probably responsible. The article does not support the "favoured food plant" part of the hook? I should be able to fix that. cygnis insignis 06:12, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
- Yes please. I only see indirect mentions of southwestern Australians in the past who favoured the food. VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 07:57, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
- But there are two paragraphs on that in the … work I saw in preview and never saved. Should be simple to get that solidly sourced and expanded, shall I ping you when I am done? cygnis insignis 10:14, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
- Yes ping me please Cygnis insignis :) VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 10:54, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Vincent60030: hey, I added "important" from a source I was already using and wonder if that covers it? [cycads are widely used as a staple, which is why Flinders expedition made the mistake of eating them raw] I notice some more easy improvements after I visit the library tomorrow, and should be able to ref the related facts to be rock-solid, but I guess an online source for this would simplify matters. I will try to dig that up tomorrow night, if you don't mind waiting for that. cygnis insignis 16:39, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Cygnis insignis: Yea go ahead. VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 06:40, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Vincent60030, I added in some more citations, are we there yet? Regards, cygnis insignis 14:19, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Cygnis insignis: Alright, we're all set. Restoring tick. Let's wait for the next queue available. VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 08:38, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Vincent60030: Cool, thanks for identifying that potential improvement. I held back from further expansion as I consulted more sources, thinking it is better to wait until the DYK is past. cygnis insignis 09:33, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
