Māru-Gurjara architecture

  • ... that Māru-Gurjara architecture (example pictured) originated in Gujarat and Rajasthan from the 11th to 13th centuries, but can now be found in Antwerp and Potters Bar? Hegewald, Julia A. B. (2011). "The International Jaina Style? Māru-Gurjara Temples Under the Solaṅkīs, throughout India and in the Diaspora". Ars Orientalis. 45. doi:10.3998/ars.13441566.0045.005. ISSN 2328-1286. - at top ("the Māru-Gurjara or Solaṅkī style of architecture.[3] It first evolved in what are today the modern States of Rajasthan and Gujarat, during the period spanning from the tenth to thirteenth century..." - 11th modified per other refs), then bottom ("The white marble Śvetāmbara Jaina Temple in Antwerp, Belgium, has three śikharas, a pronounced terrace and mirrors the essential Māru-Gurjara features." and "The sandstone Jaina Derasar of the Oshwal Centre in Potters Bar, Britain, clearly recreates a general Māru-Gurjara aesthetic.")

  • Article is new enough, long enough, neutral, and well referenced. Hook is interesting and verified with supplied source, but may I ask why you decide to change "10th century" to "11th"? The offline source supporting 11th century is from 1977, while the Hegewald source is from 2011. Could it be possible that new discoveries have pushed the date earlier? No copyvio detected (although it'd be preferable to have the long quote in the second lead paragraph paraphrased). Image is freely licensed. QPQ is not done yet. -Zanhe (talk) 04:48, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
  • It's not really that - it's about when one style term should replace another, in what was actually a fairly smooth continuum. A pretty subjective question, and Michell is the weightier authority. No doubt Hegewald is drawing on someone else, not necessarily very recent - Dhaky perhaps. In fact, if you look at her note 3 she somewhat contradicts herself, dating the style only from the new century (following Dhaky). Experience has taught me its best to quote detailed stylistic analysis, not least because that prevents someone coming along and fiddling with it. Johnbod (talk) 15:07, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Please don't leave messages in edit summaries Mandarax - it is mentioned. Johnbod (talk) 21:31, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Thank you for adding it after I notified you that it wasn't there. I left the message in the edit summary, rather than the more prominently visible place here in the template, as a courtesy, to avoid embarrassing both you, for nominating a hook with a fact which did not appear in the article, and the reviewer, who missed it. In the future I'll try to remember to avoid leaving such messages for you in edit summaries. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 22:37, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
Antwerp temple again, also 2010
The trouble with edit summary comments is that if someone adds another comment they are likely to go unseen. The article is still expanding & I thought Potters Bar was already in, but it was easily added. Anyway QPQ is now done. Johnbod (talk) 01:38, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
I included the ping in the edit summary so you wouldn't miss it, but, as I said, now I know that you prefer not to be contacted that way. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 07:27, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Thanks to you both. This is now good to go. -Zanhe (talk) 21:03, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, and since the image is so light and washed out, I was going to put it in a regular slot. Then I opened the page and noted that you have some pretty spectacular images there. Can we use something different? Yoninah (talk) 01:08, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
Taranga Jain temple
  • I can swop with this one, which is much better quality. Antwerp is in the hook & I'd like to keep it. Or one of the others in the article. Johnbod (talk) 04:32, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
  • @Johnbod: thanks, but the white architecture is very hard to see against that stormy sky. Too bad it's not a blue, clear day. What other images do you recommend? Yoninah (talk) 22:29, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
Dilwara
Kiradu
They call that a fine day in Antwerp! This one? Johnbod (talk) 22:34, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
  • @Johnbod: If I had my choice, I really like the detail in the Kiradu temples and Dilwara images. Yoninah (talk) 22:59, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
Don't they get lost at small-postage-stamp size? If you like though. Johnbod (talk) 23:23, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
  • I see a lot of detail on the Kiradu Temple one. Restoring tick per Zanhe's review. Yoninah (talk) 20:42, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
  • Putting the Kiradu pic at the top - hope this can go soon; I've got 3 Indian art ones with lovely pics stacking up. Johnbod (talk) 03:39, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
