Article has been draftified and thus is no longer in mainspace. No prejudice against renominating once the article is recreated.

List of petitions calling for Israel ban from Sports

  • ALT1 ... that many calls for Israel to be banned from international sports make reference to the sport bans resulting from the Russian invasion of Ukraine?
  • ALT2 ... that many commentators compare the Russian sports ban resulting from the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the Israeli non-ban?

    • Review: Ghazaalch For me to continue the review, I think we need to clean some things up in tone and grammar.
    1. Some examples of grammar, "More recently, in 2014," reads like some unnecessary wording how about "In 2014". Later you use the word "says" how about stated or said? In the body "A group of a dozen" maybe just say Twelve? and some punctuation "‘neutrality’" . The renewed". So I will stop reviewing there and say you need to copyedit the article.
    2. A more important issue is that this is a contentious subject so neutrality will be scrutinized. It is also a requirement for us WP:DYKCRIT Articles must be neutral Reading the text, I can find nothing about Israel's position. Have they said anything? Or has any other country or organization? So I am going to stop the review here so that you can address these. When you complete them please ping me here and if I do not respond in a day, post this on WT:DYK to ask for a reviewer to take over Lightburst (talk) 15:49, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
Lightburst regarding #2, I'm not sure how exactly a List article can address what Israel has said about this. I suppose we can make a small note of that in the lead. But if we make it in the list itself...what exactly would that even look like? For example, List of boycotts only contains list of boycotts, it doesn't include opposing viewpoints of every boycott.VR (Please ping on reply) 23:28, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
I'd say that Israel's position or reaction should be discussed in the prose section. Otherwise, there will be fireworks at Errors and we don't want that. Schwede66 00:52, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
Hello Lightburst. I tried to fix the issues you posted above. Is there anything else that should be done?Ghazaalch (talk) 10:51, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
Lightburst recently asked on WT:DYK#Israel for someone else to take over this review due to his need for a wikibreak. I will take it over, but I won't do it immediately.--Launchballer 11:01, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
@Ghazaalch: Let's get the basics out of the way. Long enough, new enough. QPQ unnecessary. None of the lead appears in the body, so this would deserve {{lead extra info}} - I suggest moving this into Background and Reactions sections. More pressing, however, is that Earwig is on fire, and I suggest that you step on the copyright violations in this article as a matter of urgency.--Launchballer 17:54, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
Hello Launchballer. See if the problems are solved now.Ghazaalch (talk) 21:07, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
Hoo boy. I just read the rest of the article. This needs a robust copyedit, which I've started, and will continue later.--Launchballer 11:45, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
@Ghazaalch: I've given this a robust copyedit to remove lots of lengthy quotes per WP:SUMMARY and several instances of outright copyright violations. Please be more careful with copyrighted content. What you need to do now is a) remove or replace WP:ANADOLU as a source, as it is considered unreliable for topics related to international politics, b) get rid of that WP:CLUMP in the article, and c) expand the lead so that it summarises the rest of the article, as it would deserve {{lead too short}} as written.--Launchballer 12:28, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you Launchballer for your time. I hope it is OK now. Ghazaalch (talk) 14:29, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
    • Surely there is a better hook? Perhaps the contrast between the Russian ban and Israel non-ban made in many recent calls for ban would be better material for a hook. (t · c) buidhe 02:49, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
@Schwede66 and Buidhe: Agree, but we may not be able to find a source that covers the statements. Ghazaalch (talk) 09:25, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
As part of the NPP process, I have draftified the article per WP:DRAFTIFY, citing the thoroughly poor prose quality and the lack of sources that fulfil WP:NLIST. Opinions are welcome on what to do with the DYK nom. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 14:53, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Given that it's no longer in mainspace I have now closed the nomination as unsuccessful. It can be renominated as a new article (i.e. moved from draftspace) once it is moved back into mainspace and any issues are addressed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 02:19, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
