Lackawanna Limited wreck

[edit]
  • ... that the Lackawanna Limited was traveling about 80 miles per hour (130 km/h) when it struck a freight train and derailed in 1943, killing 29 people? Source: "[1] (29 deaths), "The authorized speed for No. 3 in this locality is 80 m.p.h., and the train was moving at about that speed when it passed the last automatic signal, 3,200 ft. east of the point of the accident." from the ICC report)
    • ALT1:... that an airplane carrying an emergency shipment of blood plasma for victims of the Lackawanna Limited landed on a runway illuminated by automobile headlights? Source:([2])
    • ALT2:... that during rescue operations after the wreck of the Lackawanna Limited, a wartime blackout was ignored? Source: " Working with the aid of hastily erected spotlights and the glare from automobile headlights" [3]

Length and history verified; I am taking the cited sources for ALT1 and 2 (which I like better as they're actually interesting facts about this accident) on good faith as they do not seem to be on page 1 of the D&C article cited. Thanks for adding to our coverage of New York's rail history. Daniel Case (talk) 23:51, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
