John Leamy (merchant)
[edit]- ... that merchant John Leamy (pictured) owned the first U.S. ship to enter the Río de la Plata? Source: "His vessel, the John, Captain Samuel Day, arrived at Montevideo in what was then the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata on November 28, 1798, — the first United States Vessel ever to enter that great estuary." (emphasis in original) Chandler, "Catholic Merchants", p. 98.
- ALT1:... that merchant John Leamy (pictured) was a potential juror for the U.S. Supreme Court's only jury trial?
- ALT2:... that although John Leamy (pictured) helped build a Catholic church, his children were "bitterly opposed to Catholicity"? Source: "Church Builders", p. 330.

- Article looks good (sufficiently long, well-cited, neutral). I'm assuming good faith on the two book sources that are used for the first two hooks. The third hook is cited, though if it's used it should perhaps be clarified that he contributed money towards the church being built but did not seem to actively work on the construction himself. I personally prefer the first hook. (I also love that he named his ship John.) GorillaWarfare (talk) 06:22, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
