Overall: Not a sports fan, but even I found that interesting - should get some good attention! ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 14:35, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi, I came by to promote this, but it isn't much of an article. A short lead and the rest about one incident. This needs more biographical and career details to bring it up to start class per Rule D7. Yoninah (talk) 20:52, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi Yoninah. I understand. Unfortunately the only significant coverage of this player that I can find online and in English is on that one incident. I'm sure there's information in Arabic out there but what's in the article now is about all I can do myself. Happy for you to close the nomination accordingly. @Damien Linnane: don't you have more about his career? Instead of summarizing it in the lead with a citation, it could be put in a proper section. Yoninah (talk) 02:11, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: Not really, unfortunately. I don't have a source for what team he played for in Saudi Arabia, when he first started or when he retired there. One of the existing sources mentions in passing that he played professionally there, and that following his ban his career never recovered, so even what I've got already in the article is a slight extrapolation. This website [2], which I've already harvested from lists some of his stats, but it is incomplete. His date of birth field is blank, and it makes no mention of him playing at the World Military Cup, even though he obviously did since that's where the assault and ban occurred. I did spot checks of other Saudi Arabian soccer players, and went to the websites that list their stats. While there are several typically used websites out there, the one already featured is the only one I found that gives Farhan a profile; I guess the other websites don't provide information that far back. Ive just finished fleshing out the article as much as I can using the information I have. Let me know what you think; I completely understand if it's still not enough. Thank you, that extra section does help and the article looks start-class now. I'm just wondering if we can soften the hook for a BLP. Like:
ALT1: ... that footballerJamal Farhan, who was banned for life by FIFA after punching a referee in the head, later expressed remorse and advised fans not to imitate him? Yoninah (talk) 14:15, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: I like that ALT more than my original hook; sounds good to me. :) Damien Linnane (talk) 00:17, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. We need someone else to review it. Pinging @ReaderofthePack:. Yoninah (talk) 00:51, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
I'll try, but things have gotten a little hectic with work since the initial review.ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 13:17, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
@ReaderofthePack: since you already did the review, all you have to verify is the ALT1 hook. Yoninah (talk) 19:10, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
@Kingsif: can you take time out of your very busy schedule of reviewing to give a tick to ALT1? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:02, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Alt1 is sourced and very interesting - though maybe add another ref [4] at the end of the sentence about the punching (it's cited the next sentence)? Ref for the fans part is fine. Kingsif (talk) 19:21, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
