... that Jacob Frankel served as the first official Jewish chaplain in the United States Army?

- Just a comment as I scroll by; Sir Joseph, could you supply the source for the hook as requested in the DYK template? ♠PMC♠ (talk) 12:25, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Premeditated Chaos, it was in the ref at the end of the paragraph, but I added a new ref to the end of the sentence as well. Thanks, let me know if you need anything else.Sir Joseph (talk) 14:55, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, I meant could you add it here on this page - it's supposed to be in the DYK template. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:44, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Premeditated Chaos, Oh, sorry, here is the source I used: [2] Sir Joseph (talk) 00:35, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
The Haaretz reference in the article also works well. This is a well written article, new enough, long enough, well sourced, neutral. No need for QPQ as only three between the two authors. Two small issues: (1) One sentence in the article (marked "when") needs a source; (2) the hook would be more interesting if turned around – @Sir Joseph and MatthewVanitas: what do you think of ALT1:
ALT1... that the United States Army had its first official Jewish chaplain, Jacob Frankel, in the American Civil War?
Onceinawhile (talk) 21:32, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Onceinawhile, thanks for the ping, I added a ref for the moving to the US. I'm not sure of the ALT though, but I am OK either way, but I do think it should be "during the Civil War" not "in the Civil War" It's really a matter of perspective in that the first hook is that Frankel was the first official chaplain in army, and the second hook as that the Army had a first official chaplain during the civil war and it was Frankel. Also, I think the first hook makes you ask if he was the first official chaplain, what does that mean exactly? Was there an unofficial?
- @Sir Joseph: thanks for the fix on the article. Taking your comments into account, I propose ALT2 below. Well done on creating this interesting article. Onceinawhile (talk) 23:13, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
ALT2... that the United States Army employed its first Jewish chaplain, Jacob Frankel, during the American Civil War?
- @Onceinawhile:, Thanks, much appreciated. Just a minor nitpick to make it more interesting is that this hook takes out the drama of "official" and there being a whole kerfuffle to get Frankel as the first non-Christian chaplain to serve. That brings me to an even more interesting hook perhaps, "The first non-Christian chaplain to serve in the Army, Jacob Frankel..rabbi or something..... History of Non-Christian Chaplains. - @Sir Joseph: makes sense - how about the below? I have played around with the "official" word - I think it is implied in the word "employed":

- Onceinawhile, yeah, I think that's a good one, and it does sound like an interesting hook.Sir Joseph (talk) 13:20, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- Great, good to go. Onceinawhile (talk) 13:35, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
