Grizzly Flats Railroad
[edit]- ... that the Grizzly Flats Railroad, owned by Disney animator Ward Kimball, was the first full-size backyard railroad in the United States? Source: "Walt Disney's Railroad Story: The Small-Scale Fascination That Led to a Full-Scale Kingdom" (4th ed.) by Michael Broggie, p. 53
Improved to Good Article status by Jackdude101 (talk). Self-nominated at 01:54, 6 January 2018 (UTC).
- The article has recently passed GA, and has seen substantial improvement, and the image is suitably licensed. However, the GA review seems to be quite brief and doesn't cover much ground - there is not much checking for the sources or questioning facts. The article is quite short at just over 4K of prose, which makes me wonder if it meets the "broad in coverage" part of the GA criteria. For example, this source which talks a bit more about the Emma Nevada and its relationship with the GFR hasn't been used. Regarding the hook, it is sourced, but "first 'x' in 'y'" hooks need careful scrutiny, as otherwise somebody has a tendency to turn up at WP:ERRORS and say "aha, but what about this?" However, a quick scan for sources shows multiple sources backing the hook up, so I'm going to accept it. By running this on the main page, other editors will see it and help improve it. - @Ritchie333: First off, thank you for approving this nomination. The hook is mentioned in both books I used as my main sources of info for improving this article, but I only listed one of them here. I can provide details on where it is in the other book if requested. These two books were also used extensively by me to apply similar treatments to the Disneyland Railroad and Walt Disney World Railroad articles, both of which now have featured status. Unlike those two railroads, which are covered extensively in the books I used as sources in their articles, the Grizzly Flats Railroad is treated more as a side topic with only a small handful of pages dedicated to it, hence why its article is short. All of the info in those books about the GFRR that I felt was encyclopedic enough to be included in its article has been added. The only notable piece of info that is not in the article, due to a current lack of reliable sources stating it, is the fact that the GFRR structures that were moved to the private railroad owned by John Lasseter were destroyed by the October 2017 Northern California wildfires. It will be added once a reliable source is found. I should also point out that, according to this article: Wikipedia:Good articles/By length#Shortest, there is a very long list of articles with GA status that are much shorter than this one, so the article's current size is not an issue. The GFRR's main line was only 500 feet (150 m) long and had only one station, so given how small the railroad itself was, it's reasonable to assume that its article will be short, too.
