... that despite the COVID-19 pandemic significantly stalling the fashion industry in 2020, Austrian model Greta Hofer successfully launched her career that year? Source: Vogue Germany (in German, basically it says in so many words that Hofer became a rising star for booking a prestigious fashion job despite COVID-19 all but grinding the industry to a halt in 2020)
ALT1 ... that although Austrian model Greta Hofer was only discovered in 2020, she was chosen to work exclusively for Prada that year?

Comment:Even though it is over 1500 in prose, if it is not enough (apparently it seems someone considers it a stub whereas I see it as start class) I'm willing to add more. Trillfendi (talk) 19:45, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
I've reclassified as a start class article. If I may, perhaps we could make this a bit more punchy by omiting COVID-19 and saying "despite the fashion industry stalling in 2020..." Otherwise no copyvio found, long enough and nominated in time. Lee Vilenski(talk • contribs) 15:56, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
Fair enough. I made a new hook (and the QPQ). Trillfendi (talk) 18:45, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
Overall: No issues with the article, but the first source which links to https://models.com/model/greta-hofer seems dead for me. Since it seems to be needed to verify some of the article's information (e.g. her birth date?), can you check if you can find the info elsewhere, or restore that source? Btw, I've added another source to the article (just in case someone were to debate her notability), though not much of the content. –LordPeterII (talk) 11:55, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
LordPeterII, I think I have fixed the models.com url, but it does not confirm her date of birth. TSventon (talk) 15:30, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
@TSventon: Ah, it was just a typo! Thank you. However, yes, then the issue that remains is a lack of a source for her birth date. The German Vogue claims that she is 22 in 2022, which clashes with the "8 January 2001" birthdate given by the article currently. The "8 January" is supported by another source, but that one gives no year. Since Der Standard also states that she was 21 in late 2021, it seems to me that a "8 January 2000" birth date is most likely. However, I would prefer an explicite source, if one can be found. –LordPeterII (talk) 18:33, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
Pinging @Trillfendi: as author and nominator. TSventon (talk) 21:10, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
I was going off the source that said she was 21 at the time and wasn't paying enough attention so I assumed it was 2001. My mistake. Trillfendi (talk) 17:08, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Ah, alright, no problem. @Trillfendi: Can you put inline refs for these things please though, and also for her hair and eye colour? Because those don't seem to be in the models.com source. –LordPeterII (talk) 13:19, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
I put credit to her agency for height, hair color, and eye color. Trillfendi (talk) 20:22, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
Alright, as far as I can see all info is sourced now. LordPeter2go (talk) 07:08, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
@Trillfendi and LordPeterII: I'm concerned about the use of models.com as a source – it seems less than reliable, verging on self-pub. I'm also not sure if "discovered" for people is industry language, but "discovered on the streets" can carry a negative connotation that carries a BLP issue. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 22:07, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
@Theleekycauldron: Huh that it could carry a negative connotation didn't occur to me, but maybe you are right. I just thought that she literally walked down the street, someone saw her, went up to her and said "you could be the next model", but maybe that is more Hollywood and less reality; as the "streets" thing is not acutally in the source. Anyway, I couldn't find the exact info from models elsewhere. Most reliable sources only say that she was discovered "via social media", but that's totally fine for the hook. Unless Trillfendi objects, we could simply drop models.com and replace that sentence with "Hofer was discovered on social media." –LordPeterII (talk) 16:23, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
@Theleekycauldron:@LordPeterII: Now wait one diddly-darn minute. I've been making Wikipedia articles about fashion models for 6 years now, so long that I could write them off the top of my head, and I can say with expert opinion that models.com is a top of the line source; they have a staff who track every runway show, magazine cover, and advertisement for thousands of models' careers from the beginning to present. I'll even say it's just as reliable as Vogue. In the models.com piece on new models, she said "It all started in 2019 when a young creative called Armin Sousu Rafili spotted me in the streets of Innsbruck [...]". While it's not as common these days, where most new models are discovered via social media, street scouting used to be the primary way models were discovered. Scouts will go out of their way to go somewhere they know young people will be like movie theaters or music festivals (I've written articles with those examples). It does sound like that Hollywood meet-cute element but for that to have happened during the pandemic is extraordinary. Trillfendi (talk) 17:45, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
@Trillfendi: I certainly hear that – and since the models.com piece is an interview, I suppose that would check out. I think it's just the word "discovered" being used for a person that strikes me as odd; it might be common language in the industry, but to an outsider like me, it strikes me as a little pejorative. Could the wording changed? theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 21:42, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
theleekycauldron, I don't think that the word discover is perjorative in this context, according to the online Cambridge dictionary it means "to notice that a person has a special ability or quality and to help them to become successful". TSventon (talk) 08:09, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
