George J. Roskruge

[edit]
  • ... that George J. Roskruge resigned from the Tucson School Board in protest after five female teachers were caught smoking and drinking in the presence of men? Source: "Hook is a summary of a paragraph in the article, which is a summary of five paragraphs in the source" [1]

  • This article is new enough and long enough. The hook facts are sourced inline, the article is neutral and I detected no policy issues. A QPQ has been done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:40, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but I feel the hook is very misleading. On the surface, it sounds like he was defending these women's right to smoke and drink, but the article says the opposite.
  • Personally, I think it's more interesting that he named famous Arizona landmarks after himself and his family members. Yoninah (talk) 21:19, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah, I see your point. I was trying to keep it short. What do you think of a clarified version of the hook. I don't think the landmark aspect is that interesting, the Ruskridge mountains are not very well known. Kitt peak is more widely known, but, as the article says, it may have been named after a crewman.MB 22:21, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that after five female teachers were caught smoking and drinking in the presence of men, George J. Roskruge resigned from the Tucson School Board to protest that the teachers weren't suspended?
  • ALT2 ... that after five female teachers were caught smoking and drinking in the presence of men, George J. Roskruge demanded that they resign or at least be suspended?
  • @MB: OK, ALT2 works better, but I think it's important to add the year. Also, the way you phrased it, "in the presence of men", is not at all what the source says or implies. They were drinking with their "male companions", not flouting some gender rules by being seen by men. Please adjust the wording in the article and hook. Yoninah (talk) 10:33, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah, I'm not sure I follow you here. Women smoking and drinking in private would not have been a problem, only with men. I said "in the presence of men", which I think means the same thing as "with their male companions", as presence means "immediate vicinity" or "a group of people in a particular place". What about simply "smoking and drinking with men"? MB 03:53, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
  • Much better, thanks. So we'll go with:
  • ALT2a: ... that after five female teachers were caught smoking and drinking with men, George J. Roskruge demanded that they resign or at least be suspended?
  • ALT2a hook ref verified and cited inline. Rest of review per Cwmhiraeth. ALT2a good to go. Yoninah (talk) 17:37, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
