Ganga Bruta

[edit]
  • ... that Ganga Bruta was called "the worst film of all time"?
  • ALT1:... that Ganga Bruta was "Humberto Mauro's best film", but was called "the worst film of all time?

Improved to Good Article status by Gabriel Yuji (talk). Nominated by Matty.007 (talk) at 13:55, 17 July 2014 (UTC).

  • Mathematics note: David Eppstein, back me up on this. May we not conclude from the hook that Humberto Mauro made only one film? EEng (talk) 15:44, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
  • But he can't have made any other film, as follows. Let's call Ganga Bruto G, and let us assume there exists some film F, by Mauro but distinct from G. Now, we are told that G is the worst film of all time, so F > G. But we are also told that G was Mauro's best film, so G > F. Then F > G > F and by transitivity F > F i.e. F is worse than itself and also better than itself. Thus we have a contradiction (several, actually) and F does not exist. (If we allow ties for bestness and worstness then the proof can be modified to show that Mauro could have made other films, but they must all be equally good and equally bad.) • I'm not entirely sure if you're joking or not I'm afraid. Thanks, Matty.007 17:11, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
What makes you think I'm joking? [1] EEng (talk) 18:22, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
No, we can only conclude that if the two comments were made by the same person (film quality being subjective). Which the ALT1 hook doesn't say was the case. (Indeed, according to the article, it wasn't). Anaxial (talk) 21:15, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

ALT2 ... that Ganga Bruta influenced the Cinema Novo movement 30 years after being called "the worst film of all time"? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:15, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Recent GA so length and creation date are unimportant. No copyvio, plagiarism or close-paraphrasing in the references I could check; translations are far enough away from the originals too; AGF on the offline or unavailable sources. QPQ not necessary. Citations where you'd expect them; I don't know whether plot and cast need inline citations but that is easily remedied as both are in source 5, so I'm not going to push it back on that basis. Original hook and ALT1 both supported by citations. ALT2 is true but not directly supported so I'd probably not use that one (sorry, Ritchie333, you can't win them all). I prefer ALT1. (It's a pity we can't use the poster pic, because it has fighting robots and a man breaking a woman's back; presumably that's the murder scene) Belle (talk) 10:51, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
