Ford assassination attempt in Sacramento
[edit]- ... that Squeaky Fromme's pistol (pictured), used in the first assassination attempt on US President Ford, is on display at the Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan?

- Article is most certainly long enough, and comprehensively footnoted. It appears to have been created in a sandbox and published in one go (which is fine, just hard to see how it developed). Image is fine from a copyright point of view, but I'd recommend against using it on the main page - afterall, it just looks like any other pistol. A better pic would be Fromme in the car, but that's Fair Use unfortunately.
- ALT1 ... that in 1975, an an assassination attempt on US President Ford was made to set an example for those refusing to halt environmental pollution.
- Not entirely sure who reviewed this, but the original hook is missing one important matching detail in the article: nowhere does it explicitly say that Fromme's attempt was the first one on Ford's life during his presidency. That fact needs to be made explicit in the article, and needs to be sourced by the end of the sentence containing the fact as well. It should be an easy fix, but it's necessary. I agree that the image is unlikely to be used when the article is promoted, but most articles with images aren't placed in the lead slot because there are far more images than image slots. - I can't believe I missed that! Thanks for catching it. I added the first attempt sourced fact to the article.[1] As for the image, I was thinking that it is a high quality photo that provides an intimate connection between Ford, Fromme, and the assassination event. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 14:22, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- Original hook is now supported by inline sources and is approved for use. ALT1 has not been reviewed, and no warranty is made for its accuracy or sourcing. (Not entirely sure it fits the NPOV criterion, either.) BlueMoonset (talk) 18:23, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry about that BlueMoonset - I was the original reviewer, just forgot to sign it! You're right, I didn't specifically check if the "first" claim was footnoted, just assassination attempt itself. However, in my defence, my ALT1 proposal removes the "first" claim, is clearly footnoted and (IMHO) of more universal interest). I see what you mean about the potential NPOV of ALT1 but, given this is a summary of someone's justification for an assassination their reasoning will, by definition, be an extremist's POV. I think it's clear that the fact itself (that she was trying to mak a point about environmentalism) is NPOV. Perhaps we could put "refusing to halt environmental degradation" in quotes, but I'm not sure if that's footnoted then... Wittylama 01:04, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
