First Shift (film)
- ... that Uwe Boll said his 2024 crime drama film First Shift would be a manifestation of his "kinder, gentler side" as a director, in that it is no more violent than his previous films? Source: ""Unlike many of the films in his oeuvre, from Seed (2006) and Postal (2007) to the Rampage trilogy — movies that indulged in extreme, graphic onscreen bloodshed — First Shift, Boll says, will show his kinder, gentler side". (...) "but it's a lot less violent than my other films." - The Hollywood Reporter
- ALT1: ... that after serving brief stints as a restaurateur and documentarian, German director Uwe Boll decided to formally return to filmmaking with the 2024 crime drama film First Shift? Source: "Uwe Boll, it seems, is back. The notorious German director of Rampage, Postal and Far Cry has wrapped production on his new film, First Shift, (...) After a short break from filmmaking — during which time he opened and operated Bauhaus, a high-end German restaurant in Vancouver, now shuttered — Boll says he’s back for good." - THR Source: "Although he made the small German direct-to-video production “Hanau,” based the real-life 2019 terror attack, in 2021, Boll says "First Shift" marks his first "real movie" since returning to filmmaking." - Variety

- Long enough, new enough. No maintenance templates or neutrality or copyright complaints, and this is your fourth nomination, so no QPQ needed. ALT0 much more interesting, but does not check out - source says "a lot less violent" and the hook and article say "no more violent", and these are not the same thing. Let's have an amended hook please.--Launchballer 10:23, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi User:Launchballer - just hit an edit conflict and discovered you beat me to reviewing this one! Would echo your review above re sources, neutrality, etc., being all okay. Re the first hook, I would also note that "kinder, gentler side" does not appear to be a direct quote from Boll, which could be perceived as misleading. Another alt hook suggested below. ITBF (talk) 10:38, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- ALT2 ... that Uwe Boll said his 2024 crime drama film First Shift would be "a lot less violent" than his other films? Source: "“It's an action movie, and there’s a side plot involving the mob, but it's a lot less violent than my other films," the director tells The Hollywood Reporter.
- I don't have a problem with that part of the hook, although I must see the quote marks removed, and I definitely would like to see an end-of-sentence citation.--Launchballer 11:00, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Launchballer: I'm using "no more" as an adverb meaning "in no greater degree"; as such, "no more violent" can be read as equivalent to "a lot less violent". As for the main hook, I forgot to attribute the quote to THR in the hook (as per WP:DYKHOOK), since it's written in their own voice. Before I propose a modification to the main hook, I'd like to see your thoughts on this. Got no problem with ALT2, as well, tho I disagree with the removal of the quotes, citing WP:DYKHOOK again; I've added the citation as requested. EDIT: Movie's no longer "upcoming", having debuted in Germany last April 10. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 13:55, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not convinced, sorry. "No more than" and "in no greater degree than" I interpret as "less than or equal to". (ALT0 definitely should be struck, and with hindsight I should have whinged about tenses as well.)--Launchballer 09:35, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Launchballer: ALT3 ... that Uwe Boll has considered the 2024 crime drama film First Shift to be the least violent in his body of work? Source: ""Unlike many of the films in his oeuvre, from Seed (2006) and Postal (2007) to the Rampage trilogy — movies that indulged in extreme, graphic onscreen bloodshed — First Shift, Boll says, will show his kinder, gentler side". (...) "but it's a lot less violent than my other films." - The Hollywood Reporter Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 11:13, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Much better, although opinions can change. Might be worth adding to the hook something like "has stated that he" or "stated in March 2023 that he".--Launchballer 11:24, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Launchballer: I've changed the tense. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 12:35, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Apologies, by tenses I meant that the hook should not have talked about his film in future tense (it should have left the year out). If you're alright with ALT4: ... that Uwe Boll has described his 2024 crime drama film First Shift as the least violent in his body of work?, I should be able to approve it, as I'm not introducing any new information.--Launchballer 11:15, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Launchballer: I'm fine with this. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 11:26, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
