Fast 8
[edit]... that after the death of Paul Walker, Fast 8 is the first film in the franchise being shot completely without him?
- ALT1:
... that if Cuban government grants permission, Fast 8 would be the first American film to be shot in Cuba in about 50 years? - Reviewed:

- ALT1:
Moved to mainspace by Captain Assassin! (talk) and 4TheWynne (talk). Nominated by Captain Assassin! (talk) at 03:01, 19 March 2016 (UTC).
- Cass did this in sandbox and moved it to mainspace within newness timeframe. Copyvio, source, hook interest, etc. all pass. No image. GTG on primary hook. (ALT1 hook has some issues.) LavaBaron (talk) 07:20, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- The first hook is not correct as The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift did not have Paul Walker in it as well. The ALT1 is a rumour at this point. Cowlibob (talk) 11:17, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Cowlibob: Paul Walker is dead if you don't know that yet. By the way, I've rephrased both hooks. --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 11:42, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- ALT1 cannot be correct either. Perhaps the first American film, but surely not the first film to be shot there in 50 years! Edwardx (talk) 14:00, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- It's not specified in the sources but it's what news meant. Yes, the first 'American' film. --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 17:42, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- Buena Vista Social Club (film) was a 1999 US co-production. There are probably others. Edwardx (talk) 18:43, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- Of course I know, he was quite a famous actor. The hook is still incorrect as it implies that his death is the cause for the first film in franchise without him when in fact he has previously not appeared in a film in the franchise when alive. It's also not interesting because of that. For ALT1: the American production Papa (2015) filmed in Cuba before this film so also incorrect.[[1]] Cowlibob (talk) 20:03, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- GTG as previously stated. LavaBaron (talk) 22:13, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
- How can this be good to go if there are still objections? Nohomersryan (talk) 13:55, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

- I'm sorry, but is the claim that there have been no films produced in Cuba in 50 years? Are you serious? A quote from the source, please. EEng 23:17, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- I agree that ALT1 needs to be re-phrased (see, e.g., the articles for Sicko and Cinema of Cuba). -- Notecardforfree (talk) 02:15, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- I've rephrased ALT1 a bit. --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 04:06, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Captain Assassin!, it is not enough to change the hook, you have to fix the claim in the article as well. Please let us know when that is done. I have added a necessary word to the hook ("permission"), and removed the wikilink to "Cuba" from it per MOS:OVERLINK. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:20, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- I have just struck both hooks for the reasons given by Cowlibob above: ALT1 is completely untenable due to the earlier Papa, since that was a Hollywood film and co-American production and had to be given an exemption to the U.S. embargo by American authorities. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:28, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: You can help me here. --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 09:36, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- ALT2:
... that due to the death of Paul Walker in a 2013 automobile accident, his character in the eighth installment of the The Fast and the Furious franchise, Brian O'Conner, is said to have "moved on"? - ALT3:
... that after the release of the seventh film in The Fast and the Furious franchise, Paul Walker said an eighth film was "guaranteed", though he will not be starring in it?Yoninah (talk) 15:23, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- ALT2 looks okay, but ALT3 is clearly wrong, since Walker died in 2013 and the seventh film was released in 2015; I've struck it. However, as long as the article still retains the clearly false claim that this is the first film shot in Cuba in nearly 50 years (or even the first American one, given Papa), this DYK is going nowhere. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:33, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- OK. When and if this nomination proceeds, I have another alt:
- ALT4:
... that during the filming of Fast 8 in Mývatn, Iceland, strong winds sent a plastic iceberg prop flying into a paddock, wounding one horse and mortally injuring another?Yoninah (talk) 19:00, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: It's finally filming in Cuba, and I've corrected the statement about filming permission in Cuba. Actually it says "major studio film or production," so probably you can now suggest another hook about shooting in Cuba. Thanks. --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 11:21, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Review completed by User:LavaBaron - ALT5 hook is sourced within the article, it is short enough and interesting. G2G! ツStacey (talk) 09:05, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
- I have returned this nomination from p6 as the sources for the hook (ALT5) appear to contradict one another. Variety says the film "may be going where no major studio film has gone before", not "first major studio film to be shot in Cuba in about 50 years". The Hollywood Reporter says both that it would be "the first major studio production to shoot on the island" and "the first Hollywood studio film to shoot on the island since the embargo was set in the 1960s." I really don't know what to make of these various statements, but none of them equate to "the first major studio film to be shot in Cuba in about 50 years". Gatoclass (talk) 16:03, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- This April 29 article from the Los Angeles Times gives a lot more emphasis to Papa starting filming in Cuba even before the embargo was lifted, and names several other films and documentaries that have been or are being filmed there. @Captain Assassin!: can we drop this Cuba idea and go with ALT4? Yoninah (talk) 19:58, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- I really wanted it go with Cuba idea, but it looks like we should drop it. ALT4 is good then. --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 07:48, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- One minute. I took out the first major studio film in 50 years claim, and added something from the Variety source about the franchise's penchant for filming in exotic locales. We could write:
- ALT6: ... that in keeping with the The Fast and the Furious franchise's penchant for filming in "exotic" locations, such as Dubai and Rio de Janeiro, Fast 8 is filming in Cuba? Yoninah (talk) 09:33, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- I was a bit confused why ALT5 was rejected but I am confident that ALT6 is what it says in the hook! Review completed by User:LavaBaron - ALT6 hook is sourced within the article, it is short enough and interesting. G2G! ツStacey (talk) 11:21, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
