Cross County Mall (Illinois)

  • New article, plenty long, and looks to be appropriate quality. Hook is cited in the article to a paywalled source. (I highly recommend tagging paywalled sources with |subscription=yes |via=Newspapers.com in the citation tags.) The hook is 191 characters, barely within the guidelines. I'm willing to pass as is if you're particularly attached to this hook, but I think a shorter hook that either leaves out the quote or the store names - and probably leaves out the town name as well - may be better. • @Pi.1415926535: I feel the city is necessary since there is more than one Cross County Mall in the US. I would be fine with removing the "then the three largest retailing firms in the nation" part, so...
That looks good to me. All ready for the front page. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:31, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this. It didn't make sense to leave a defunct Florida mall as the main Cross County Mall page, so I moved that page to Cross County Mall (Florida). I agree with Pi.1415926535 that this hook should be trimmed some more. Since most readers probably aren't familiar with the names of these retailers from 40 years ago, how about writing:
  • ALT2: ... that in 1974, Cross County Mall in Mattoon, Illinois became the first US shopping center to house the nation's three largest retailers? Yoninah (talk) 21:10, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: The problem is that those are not currently the three largest retailers, and that hook makes it sounds like the current ones. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 01:45, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
Fine with me. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 19:24, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
