I've pulled this out of the queue. It was due to go live in 2 hours' time but there are a number of unresolved issues discussed at Errors. So we'll have to try again. Schwede66 22:08, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

• If I understand the conversation at WP:ERRORS correctly, the only issues were with the hook and the photo. It's a little unfortunate this wasn't raised until the last minute. I would have suggested dropping the picture and just running it as a quirky hook. But, OK, here's a few alternatives:
  • ALT1: ... that New York bicycle messenger Antonio Rodrigues invented Cranksgiving as a way to combine an alleycat race and charity event? Source: In 1999, New York City messenger Antonio “Tone” Rodrigues thought up a different kind of alleycat, one that would help the less fortunate during the Thanksgiving holiday [1]
  • ALT2: ... that Cranksgiving has been described as "part bike ride, part food drive, part scavenger hunt"? Source: Cranksgiving bills itself as “part bike ride, part food drive, part scavenger hunt" [2]
  • ALT3: ... that while Cranksgiving has no entry fee, riders spend $15–20 purchasing food to donate at the end of the race? • Well, I did ping the whole team when this was first reported some 32 hours ago. The photo was just the icing on the cake; the substantial issue was that with the change to the main page having become imminent, no agreement had been reached for an alternative hook. Hence there was no way that we could run with it. Yes, it's frustrating when a special occasion opportunity gets missed, I get that. Schwede66 05:23, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Approving ALT2 and ALT3. (ALT1 cites primary source; seems the weakest anyway (too descriptive) and trying to save time.) @Schwede66: Is there any way to get this moved into one of the next DYKs?
